SSC813? Never heard of her 🤣

It dawned on me last week I haven’t added a Seiko to the collection since August…of 2022. That’s 14 months 😳! The horror 🫣 Today I correct that embarrassing oversight with the delivery of the SBDL085 Speedtimer, my first Seiko solar quartz. The last Seiko quartz on my wrist was a kinetic quartz (long gone, model not remembered), worn for a huge chunk of the 1990s while living in…Japan 🇯🇵.

Do not confuse the SBDL085 with the SSC813 🤨! That’s a common rookie mistake, and we’re not rookies here are we! No. Of course another common rookie mistake is thinking there’s a difference between the two 🤔. Far as I can tell, there isn’t 🧐. That is apart from the price, at least per my 15 minutes of eBay browsing 😬. This example was $403 with free delivery from Japan. For some reason SSC813s tend to cost more.

Like just about everyone else in the watch community the Speedtimer caught my eye last year. I read and watched several reviews at the time and came close to pulling the trigger a few times but for some reason or another, don’t ask me why, I never did. The watch was never far from my thoughts though, so here we are.

This was not my first rodeo with resizing a pin and collar system bracelet. So it only took about 30 minutes of fussing and cussing, plus two trips to the floor with a flashlight to find a particularly slippery collar to git ‘er done. Thankfully the bracelet sized up perfectly for my 6.75 inch wrist. Also gave it a quick whirl on a black leather strap which will be a great option as well.

Bottom line: I’ve been collecting watches now for about 6 years. The Speedtimer is a watch I would have bought and worn before I got into watches, so this sorta kinda feels like a return to “normal.” 🤓

Great watch! I also imported mine from Japan for substantially less than I could get it otherwise. Enjoy!

🐼 FTW

I have the SBDL085 as well. Great watch. The only distinction I can see between this one and the SSC813 is the printing on the dial.

Here is the SBDL085:

I also put it on a Strapcode jubilee.

Looks great on the jubilee, which is currently out of stock.
