When your Omega Moonwatch dreams wax and wane like the moon . . .

When I began building a wish list of watches that I'd like to own one day own, the Moonwatch Professional (ideally a limited edition like an Apollo anniversary) was high on the list. It's an iconic watch. Like the Rolex Explorer, there's a ton of marketing and story and history behind it. That's one of the reasons why I loved/love it . . . and also one of the reasons why it frequently gets deleted from my "must have" wish list or bumped to the far end.

My attitudes about "must have" watches has changed dramatically as I've acquired more watches, and I think what I see happening is something that I think a lot of collectors (esp. newer ones) should be careful to listen to . . . that voice inside of you that is telling you what YOU like, what YOUR tastes are, what YOUR wrist and YOUR gut wants vs. the sometimes too alluring siren song of the Omega (or any brand) marketing team, the history of NASA, and the lies we sometimes tell ourselves about how we really do need an astronaut level chrono to time pasta.

I waffle btw. not wanting a watch that every other person has to wanting to be part of that legion of enthusiasts. I can't be honest with myself sometimes about how I'm ho-hum about the aesthetics of the Moonwatch.

Anyway, it's bumped to the end of the list again. I'm sure I'll bump it back up at some point. There may be years where it is off the list completely. Some days I'm better at listening to my wrist's heart more than others. I just hope that when the time comes, I'll be buying with my heart vs. the fanboy desires of MoonwatchLover1969 and friends on WatchuSeek and WatchCrunch. Maybe I'll learn to love it or a particular model with reckless abandon. Everyday is one small step . . .

I understand exactly how you feel. Additionally, as much as I love the Speedy (and as reluctant as I am to justify the "membership" cost), I decided for the time being to be content with an Homage (PD1701 v3) 😎

BTW, I LOVE that "Failure is not an option" 3 Omega print in your pic above!! Where'd you get that?

Whole bunch of Speedy merchandise from artisans on Etsy. I kind of want a similar one for the Grand Seiko Seasons collection . . .not sure what the tag line for that would be . . . probably something very zen like "Consider the waves . . ." haha

At the moment I have a Moonswatch Pluto on a nice leather strap. If Omega ever made ACTUAL versions of those models I'd be very interested . . . there are some other colors for the 38mm speedies (tech not a Moonwatch though) . . . I don't need another black watch in my life. I like pop. That blue Silver Snoopy with the crazy lunar module complication on the back case pops like hell but it's going to be a cold day in hell if that's ever available for retail price . . . and I just don't buy frequently enough from my AD to get on any list . . . I suppose I could try.

It might be the back story of the watch that attracts you to the watch, but there's something about a speedy when you see it and put it on wrist.

I came, I saw, I tried at my AD . . . my heart did not flutter (at least for your standard non-limited) . . . shrugs. I felt like I should have been obsessed in person but wasn't hence the back and forth. That said, I do feel that way about a lot of watches and agree that folks should try on and handle as much as possible. If I could handle some of the limited editions or the Snoopy maybe I could put this dream to rest. Maybe someone in my Redbar group will bring one to a meetup one day . . .

You could always try out the new 43mm Bulova Luna Pilot "Snoopy" blue/white version? I know it isn't a Speedy, but it IS a moonwatch with actual space travel history! Plus it's a LOT less expensive than any Speedy model ... just sayin' 😀😉
