Tag Heuer Carrera Glassbox… I’m in love with the reverse panda (pics look dusty due to protective film!)

I was passing the Tag Heuer AD in Manchester today and popped in to try the new Carrera glassbox. I was expecting to prefer the blue, as it has a very stylish look, and a beautiful sunray dial, but I was blown away by the black, reverse panda. I have a lovely blue faced Monaco (see pics in my biog), so the RP would add diversity to my collection (in my deluded mind!)

The 12 o’clock date, which I thought would be obscured by the chrono hand, wasn’t, and the silver subdials pop, but in a subtle way. The way it combines modernity and heritage, especially with the rally style strap impressed me deeply.

It is compact, and is quite a thick watch, but I was very impressed. They had the Skipper in, but that didn’t float my boat (if you pardon the pun).

Quite an experience, and I’m very impressed with the black glassbox. But can I justify the (soon to increase) £5K asking price? What are your thoughts, Crunchers? Have any of you taken the plunge? Curious to hear your thoughts.

Yes, they had the protective film on, and this was the best shot I could get! I’m really, really tempted by the reverse Panda (without the dusty film!)

I hear you! I may have to go back and try it on too. The entire glassbox range is a breath of fresh air. They also had the Dato in stock, which was stunnning, but not my cup of green tea!

These really are fantastic looking watches. Do you think this is overpriced ? If so compared to what? Speedy? Daytona? I'm personally holding out for one of these:

The price is what’s holding me back. I had my Speedy on today, and I can say, the Glassbox held its own in comparison. I’m not a fan of the Daytona; the dial is too small and it’s one hell of a premium, even at retail. The reverse panda glasssbox ticks a lot of boxes.

Bought this shortly after release and only love the reverse 🐼 more and more. It’s also a strap monster

I tested the green yesterday as well. Not for me either.

I guess that's what I'm not understanding, the Tag is ~$1500 less than the lowest priced Speedy. Or is it just a lack of funds right now? Which I can totally understand. Just trying to see if you think that is is overpriced compared to the competition or not. In my opinion I think it's very well priced compared to what else is out there right now.

I think it’s reasonably well priced, but I paid the same £ for the Speedy about 2 years ago. The recent price hikes of the Speedy have well exceeded inflation, but I’d always go for the Speedy, which in my mind is still £5K! So, I can’t really justify it at the moment, although I agree it’s good value relative to competition, I just don’t need it (although I want it!)

If it was a limited run and not normal production I might see a use case for that, but it turns me off when an AD is like you can look but don't take off the film...like how am I supposed to see it for real lol

Glassbox is a beautiful watch without a doubt and I hope it will mark a new era for TAG Heuer.

That said, it’s price is 30% below Omega and 20% above Tudor. This is not where TAG sits currently. For 30 years TH worked hard to ruin it’s reputation and heritage leaving brand enthusiasts with Monaco and few limited editions.

Glassbox may be one of the better looking options in this price range but comparatively they ask for a lot.

Got hands on with one tonight. The 39mm is perfect. Not super thick and on the leather it really works. Nice finishing as well. It looks good in the flesh.
