Tribus TRI-01 Up close and personal

Did anyone else jump on the Tribus sale last year?  If so, what did you think about the brand?

The TRI-01 I got seems exceptionally well made, but I can't ever see myself paying MSRP for them.

The styling does nothing for me, and I find the retail prices to be bordering on hilarious.

I get that the company maybe doesn't want to directly compete against CW, but I think they were a bit too ambitious with pricing.

Hi, Shane,

Nice to see you here! I am a big fan of your channel and really like your reviews. In fact, your review of the new Seiko SRPG field watch line influenced me to seriously check out the new Seiko 5s, and I even got a couple, including an SRPG35.

Honestly, I hadn't even heard of Tribus prior to your post. I went to their website and took a look at some of their watches. While I like the look of this watch, their MSRP for the chronometer is really high, considering you can still find a Tissot PR100 Chronometer for less than $600. However, their other watches don't seem to be as outrageously priced and more in line with the market. I am on the fence about the aesthetic of most of their other models. It is humorous that the only watch I like the appearance of is the one that I feel is really overpriced. 🤣

Thanks!  They aren't very well known.  Suposedly the story is that when Christopher Ward (the man) cashed out of CW.  He and his sons started Tribus... or it might just be his sons.  But for whatever reason, they haven't really advertised or caught on.

Last year they had a crazy 70% off sale on everything, which is when I picked this one up.  Some people thought they were going out of business, but looks like it was just a way to get watches out and people talking about them a little bit more.

I've been meaning to do a little video on this one, but haven't got to it yet.

Yes, it's Christopher Ward and his sons. Watches look decent enough, if not particularly out there or inspiring. I gather they are all COSC-certified.

Tribus have been pushing their Liverpool FC range of special edition watches by email like there is no tomorrow! Note to Tribus: other football teams are available

I bought the bright yellow TRI-03, it's a lovely watch with manual wind, COSC certified, dual time and really well made.

It would be great if they had some more designs in the pipeline.

On the whole I think they are maybe a little overpriced (normally), knock off a couple of 100, but... how much is the COSC certification worth? Some of the Farer and Christopher Ward watches are in a similar price range and don't have COSC.
