Why do I love watches that are SO HARD to find??

I've been really searching for the perfect watch under $3k, and I came across the Grand Seiko SBN001 (costs more than $3k, but I'd be willing to stretch) and the Monta SkyQuest GMT with the Pepsi aluminum bezel and Gilt numerals and markers. Those watches are impossible to come by due to them both being Limited Editions.

I'm not attracted to them because they're both Limited Editions...I like them because their designs are what I'm into! But alas...I cannot find them. I guess I'm asking a rhetorical question, but it's nice to vent in front of people that are probably dealing with the same thing I'm dealing with haha.

Much appreciated, man! I just need to be patient!👊

I think part of the fun/joy in this hobby is absolutely the hunt… I know some folks hate it but I just really like deep diving when I find something I love. Good hunting to you, hope you bag either one of those watches… getting a limited edition or small batch of just about anything is the cherry on top! 🤙

I agree with bevelwerks. The thrill of the chase! Good luck friend 🍻

I hate the whole concept of limited editions.  A manufacturer will make a model that is objectively better or subjectively more attractive than their regular production models then limit them to X number of pieces that I don’t have access to even if I’m ready to buy.

What am I supposed to do in that case?  Am I supposed to run out and get their objectively worse or subjectively less attractive production model that is available?  I won’t because Homey don’t play dat.

I’m looking at Glashutte Original for it’s Sixties Iconic collection, limited to 25 pieces each.  I’m looking at Blancpain for their perpetually sold out 40mm Fifty Fathoms that remain on their website long after they are long gone.

It is certainly the thrill of the hunt like @bevelwerks said. And it's also because you're a watch nerd like the rest of us and like torturing yourself....like the rest of us. I think we all have those few pieces with certain characteristics that we're after and we painstakingly scour the interwebs for the perfect combination of what we're looking for. You're not alone. Wishing you luck on the hunt. 🍻

Thanks! I saw this, but I'm not too keen on the seller and the pictures. Also, if i'm patient, I can find one cheaper! Thanks a lot, though!

I wonder if regular models are made for mass appeal to the general public and that the quantities involved would create financial issues if those versions were unappealing.  Maybe limited additions allow manufacturers to be more artistic and creative because the quantities are small & the financial risk is also small. So that allows them to really take creative risks that sometimes pay off with really great limited editions.

Another option is that the same models that you like, everybody else likes and therefore they are scarcer because of popularity.
