Longines Conquest 2023

For anyone interested in this watch, I got to try on the blue dial version today. The watch was actually quite comfortable on the wrist, far more comfortable than the old version with Arabics at 6 and 12. However, the clasp was a disappointment (no microadjust and pretty plain). The dial was way too shiny for me (Sunray finish with very polished indices). Legibility wasn't great because of all the shininess (at least under the strong AD lights). Stylistically, it was just nothing like the previous model and really did seem to be a blatant effort to create a watch that would appeal to people who want an Aqua Terra or Oyster Perpetual but can't afford one. The watch dial reminded me a lot of the more recent smaller and very colorful Aqua Terra models that came out last year. I think the old Conquest line could have used some refinement (slimmer, raised indices and lume for all model colors, reduce the size of the crown guards, microadjust, etc) while keeping some of the Conquest design aesthetics. I really would have preferred a refined version of the old model compared to this new watch. The Conquest 2023 seems like a totally new watch that they are calling a Conquest because they don't know where else it fits in the lineup. The watch was just too blingy for me and didn't seem like it should be called a Conquest. However, if you want a blingy and colorful sports watch on a budget with solid quality, then this one might work for you even though it is a pass for me.

That's such a cool watch on paper but it is quite shiny. I was quite curious when I saw this in the window (because it was so shiny I guess 😀) and didn't know what it was.

The sizes are weird. Okay I get the 41mm, big is trendy amd sells but just as with the spirit the date is too far in the centre, they need a bigger movement. The 2892 base they are using was designed at a time when 30mm dials were the norm on full size watches.... I cannot be the only one who is annoyed by that?! Then the 34mm is acceptable in that regard but it is a bit off in the sense that the bezel is too wide for the face.

The 37mm spirit got it right, this watch in 37mm would be a hit as well.
