A Week with all the time in the World...

It's been a bit more than a week since the A500 arrived at my doorstep and this is a random jumble of my thoughts having had it on wrist since then...

My initial impressions were that it was classic Casio - resin bodied, tiny, shiny and lightweight. No complaints here and finishing overall was decent. If you had to push me on an initial grumble the 'endlinks' (if you can call them that) seemed abit loose but not a deal breaking issue.

After a day at the desk I was pleased with how it sat on the wrist (super easy bracelet adjustment) and wrist fatigue was never on the cards. I fiddled with the settings constantly as you do with any new watch and didn't find the world time function as baffling as I thought I would!

Day two...I can't remember anything from day two...

Day three...I learned how to stop it beeping when pressing buttons whilst on a really really long conference call...don't hate me it was otherwise a busy day and I didn't notice the watch all that much...a positive for it in my book.

Day Four and it went outside for a supermarket visit, clanged it against the side of a fridge reaching for some cheese. It survived and fortuitously didn't scratch. Score one for Team silver coated resin!!! Took it off for cooking though and forgot about it till the morning so no washing up test 👎

Day Five and a visit to the pub, cue me overselling the benefits of having the world time function in a watch compared to a smartphone after only 3 pints. We timed my mate necking a pint and checked what time it was for one of our other friends who lives abroad...who needs those smartphones eh! Oh and I scratched the bracelet on my house keys when trying to get them out of my pocket, bad times.

General thoughts after the week are that this is a great watch if you are into these small retro style digital watches (which I definitely am).  It does all of your usual watchy things - it beeps, tells time, stopwatch etc but with the added fun of the world time function. It's neither flashy nor drab and people did more than just grunt politely when looking at it. 11/10 would recommend.

Random closing thought: it is, to the untrained eye, just like many of my other Casio's...I'm starting to wonder if my friends can even tell the difference and are instead now of the belief that I keep showing them the same watch all the time...

Lovely looking watch. ❤️ Do you think it's possible to swap straps?

It is a very nice and versatile watch and what it lacks compared to the ae1200 in terms of wr and battery life, it makes it up with its design and style.

You can also try leather straps, one pas natos and also milanese bracelets look nice on it. Unfortunately I have not found straps specifically made for it to compensate for the width difference between lag width and width of the watch at the edges.. Vario for example does not produce special straps for it and no one else in the world to the best of my knowledge..

It is. You need 18mm straps, even though I also was able to squeeze 20mm. Lokks great on leather or milanese.

Thank you 😊, as delta6 said 18mm but I'm wary of it in general on Casio's after seeing some pictures which accentuates the difference...here's an A500 on an 18mm Nato I've found:

Do you have any pics you could share of the 20mm on there? Really keen to see how it looks!

Like you, I prefer the silver colored Casio watches than the black resin.

Any thoughts on the B640? I didn't see this model in your collection photo. BWC recommends it as a better alternative to the A158 because of its better light and WR50. He also recommends the A700 (33mm, WR30) and the A168 (35mm, WR30).

I've not really explored the B640 as I wasn't sure about the curved edges with a watch that size, I'd love to see one on wrist. It's so difficult to judge from photos alone but you are 100% right when it comes to specs it's up there. I did a mini review of the A700 last month, sadly I just couldn't come round to it and she's stayed in the watch box after my first week with it. I do love how thin it is though. The A168 is a firm favourite of mine, was my work beater for years and I would say every Casio fan should have one 👌

Thanks for the reply, dude. Much appreciated. And yeah, sad your A700 is left in dark of her box now. Maybe she can see the light some time. :P

I accidentally picked up an A500 last week when it was sitting in my Amazon basket whilst I bought a big bag of cat food. The strap keeps tearing hairs out of my arm, so it’s not really something I want to wear on the regular.
