Circa 1978 Texas Instruments TI3H

Purchased on eBay from seller who said bought at estate sale. Untested so a gamble.

Still in box and no signs ever worn or back ever off case. Put in a battery, a big 13 size is what it takes those are only used for hearing aids these days, and it works!

I’m 55yo, so a kid of the 70’s. I have a soft spot for vintage LED and LCD watches of my youth. These were going to change the world and they did a bit.

Look up history of LED watches (my favorite) and see how they took the world by storm in early 70’s. Selling for more than a Rolex and could not keep in stock.

I love the LEDs the most. My first watch was a TI-500 in 1976. I was 9yo and saved $20 to order from JCPenney. I was hooked on watches from that day on.

Great find! I was born in '77, so by the time I was aware of the world, all the watches had gone LCD...though there were still a few calculators being sold with the old LED displays, which really captured my fancy. 46 years later they still (or maybe again) look magical to me, so I'm always keeping an eye on eBay! Heady days, those Quartz Crisis '70s, when suddenly the brand on someone's wrist might not be a reputable old horological name but instead Texas Instruments or National Semiconductor or CompuChron...

Thanks and I just am drawn to these. My geeky self can’t help it. This is a great history of that period with many awesome watches shown.

My first watch was LCD (Texas Instruments Model 550, 1978 Edition.) I loved that watch. It is long since been lost. I bought a similar one recently on Ebay (the 1979 edition, which had the "rubber tire" strap.) But I am still on the hunt for the '78 version.

I understand as I’m constantly on the hunt for my original on eBay or elsewhere. One on there right now that’s perfect for $375. I just can’t make myself pull the trigger at that amount.

I have seen Omega LEDs and original packaging Accutrons asking $4-5k. 😳

Like you, my childhood watch is long gone.
