That filter shape makes me cry; Is the filter to large?

Othwise folding along the glue/welding line is key. You might have to angle the fold for it to fit perfectly.

For some it is.
I just poke a bit of fun on the concept of "certain watches can only be used with certain types of straps". Comfort most important tbh and the OEM that came with the watch was not good.
