Are islander watch’s better than the seiko mirror matches?

And why?

My understanding is they provide things like sapphire crystal and bezel inserts (on some of their watches). I had an Islander Bayport that was nice. Only weird point was the bezel had a tin like sound when rotated.

Better is a judgment based on what you value. Islanders are well made watches that typically include features/materials/upgrades not found on the original Seiko watches they copied. Mark explicitly stated that is why he started the brand. He was selling so many sapphire crystals, bracelets, etc. that he should just put them all together in a watch. Back when Seiko was still selling the SKX line, he actually sold “upgraded” SKXs.

But those watches also lack the originality of the Seikos upon which they are based.

Of course, many of the Seikos Islander copied are no longer in production. And, Islander started selling original design watches a few years ago. Most, if not all, of their current releases are original designs and they appear to be selling well.

Well the copied Seikos were kinda the catch for me because I really don’t want to mod very many Seikos so it seemed liked an easy way to improve on dumb things Seiko does like hardlex crystals without much hassle

If that's what you're looking for, then you will probably be very happy with Islander watches.
