Here's one for those among us who love a watch that delivers outstanding value for money- who doesn't? This is a tournament in which we vote to determine the watch that WatchCrunch deems to be the ultimate value proposition! Today, we have the Hamilton Khaki Field Murph going up against the Farer Erebus II.
The Murph goes for around $1100. You get a stainless steel case with a sapphire crystal, calf leather strap. The watch is equipped with Hamilton's H-10 movement, based on the ETA CO7.611. It has approximately 80 hours of power reserve. And of course, you get the watch that Murph wore in James Cameron's Interstellar, complete with the 'Eureka' Morse code in lacquer on the seconds hand.
With Farer, you're also in for just over $1100. It comes with a polished stainless steel case, black silk gloss dial and applied golden bronze numerals and markers, a domed AR-coated sapphire crystal, high quality leather strap, and a Swiss-made LaJoux-Perret G101 movement with 68 hours of power reserve.
Again, remember that we're not voting on which is the "better" watch, but which watch, to you, offers a more compelling product at its price point. Vote away!
I'm Tom. I'm an attorney based in Johannesburg, South Africa. Fairly new to this hobby, but I have a developing love for tool watches. I appreciate brands like Zodiac, Sinn, Hamilton, Serica and Lorie...

My vote goes to the Erebus - love that dial and the applied bronze markers.
I've had the Murph, was disappointed so voted Farer.
Murph was disappointing because lack of AR coating & flat printed fauxtina numerals made it hard to read ,and powermatic 80 = plastic parts in the disposable movement. (Gutted as it's one of my favourite films)
Not handled a Farer, but spec looks better & I've only read positive comments about them.
Isnโt jomewaโs watch called the โerebusโ who had the name first and seriously canโt you at least come up with an original name? Toooooo funny! ๐
I have no idea of the Farer's size but it is styled to look yuge with that narrow bezel and gobs of empty dial space plug squat lugs.

The Erebus is just a variant name. Itโs the brand name in the case of JOMWsโ

I believe it 36mm. Lug to lug is short too.
But yes, thereโs a lot of dial!
I prefer the Hamilton Murph, I think if weโre talking โvalue for moneyโ itโs the clear winner. You donโt get AR (even though Hamilton says they put it on XD) and you probably get a worst strap. But in return, the H10 is a solid movement - the use of plastic parts as a con is overblown imo.
You also get an iconic watch that even non watch nerds can relate to. And you get the Hamilton brand, the Farer is no slouch but letโs be honest, the Hammy definitely has more heritage. Microbrands are great but they will always be lacking on the heritage part just bec they havenโt been around long enough.

It's 39.5mm. It's got a lot of dial, but I actually like the proportions.
Wow a Hamilton vs a Farer? How dare you! ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ
