Citizen EP6050-17E VS EO2020-08E

Good day watch afficionados,

As a follow up to my original dive watch post I decided to create another one as a comparison between two of the contenders I recently try.

On the left the 34mm Citizen EP6050-17E (case: 34mm / lug to lug: 39mm / dial 24mm)

On the right the Citizen EO2020-08E (case: 36.5mm / lug to lug: 42mm / dial: 33mm)

So I ask you which one do you think looks better.

Here is some of the things I found out while trying them:

  • The rubber strap on the EP6050-17E is quite hard

  • Both crowns are a bit of a pain in the ass to operate especially due to my thick fingers (also inexperienced with diver watches) the crown guards and the size which is the same

  • The date complication is difficult to see because is sunk in the dial which projects some shade over it.

I would also like to know if any of you as some suggestions on Skin-Divers as I also have notice been more compact and dressy alternative to an actual dive watch.

Cheers!

In those photos the smaller one looks better, but I find it hard to believe that the larger one will be an issue. Both have a ton of wrist presence with that thickness.

I really like the Zodiac Super Seawolf as a skin diver.

Thanks for your suggestion of a Zodiac, I have been eyeing them and look quite good would have to look on the Grey market or a second hand.

Also saw the Vulcain Nautique a more compact sized skin diver to the Zodiac. Not sure if there's something within the watch brands in the 36mm rage with a short lug to lug

Dan Henry 1975 Skin Diver, 37mm.

Personally I'd go with the Mecaquartz, just cuz it's a sweep-ish second hand that is set and forget for awhile.

I'd also throw the 36mm Tissot Seastar into the mix. Was HIGHLY impressed with the finishing in person.

Enough so, that after I got one as a gift, I'd wear it in a heartbeat.

Both are good looking options, especially the Tissot because I can go the jewelry to try on.

The Dan Henry 1975 being a push-pull crown I'm not sure of the water resistance and also read about problems with supply and watches not working.

The Tissot honestly surprised me. I bought it as a gift for my wife. Has nothing to do with size, feminine vs masculine, etc. She just said wanted a mostly white/silver dive watch, with a good movement, WR, and a more compact overall size.

The watch in person surprised me with how good it pulled off the all white/silver, and overall how well it was finished.

I'd definitely wear either of these:

I really don't mind the size as I'm not a fan of the oversized trend we lived in, in fact I gravitate towards small watches or vintage size watches size since I tried a 34mm vintage Omega on a jewelry and I really don't like anything above 37mm.

Having 5.9in wrists doesn't make life any easier in that aspect as almost all "masculine watches" look like I have a UFO strapped to my wrist. Like I said I need to try it on, would see it on my next trip to the city.

Unfortunately Seiko it's not worth it their 5Sports line doesn't have a screw-down crown and the rest of the lines are quite overprice at least in the nearby jewelries, authoriser dealers an the spanish webpage

There is also the Seestern 62MAS as a cheaper and thinner alternative to the FiftyFour

Signum I think is outside of Europe which would put the price quite high with the taxes and import fees

Baltic and Maen I would prefer something more compact in the lug length

The Certina model is not available here at the moment

I'm looking for something similar to the 50s skin divers and less of a SKX clone

·

There is also the Oris Diver 65, the 36mm model which is not available at the moment but can easily be found in the second hand market

·

The options are:

  1. Oris Diver 65, 36mm model. Found a second hand model for 900€ with box and papers, would have to see the authenticity of it

  2. Tissot Seastar 1000, 36mm model. I can try it on the nearby city jewelries and can easily be found for less than 400€

  3. DIY 62MAS, would get a case from Aliexpress or Namokimods and put an NH35 movement with a reproduction 62MAS dial. Would have to take it to a watchmaker to be tested if it can swim with it.

  4. An actual vintage skin diver if I can't find anything, even if cannot touch water it's the least expensive option and there is a lot of variety. Would have to take it to a watchmaker for a service

·

I took a look at Squale, pretty much a vintage skin diver made today. My only complain is that not a single jewelry have them in my area and the only one that has something is in Madrid almost 600km or 373mi from where I live if by any chance I go there this summer I would take a look at it.

·

Took a look at Nivada, the Antarctic Diver is something similar to what I'm looking for it's a shame that is out of stock at the moment at least until the end of 2023.

Also forgot about Longines Hydroconquest, 34mm model as an alternative to Tissot. It was discontinued some years ago but it's pretty easy to find on the second hand market for a similar price of the Tissot.

And the Armida A11 another alternative to the Tissot with a swiss automatic movement

·

Just looked at it the MODEL 60 RE-EDITION which is also quite similar to what I'm looking for and at a reasonable price, al least cheaper than a new Oris

Image
·

Yeah, just gave a thought I would love to have one of others like the Longines, Armida or the Aquastar for a fraction of the Vulcain. Could actually "buy" a Seestern from Aliexpress to see how it looks like and return it or sell it.

Anyway will keep an eye out for skin diver look-alikes

·

Today I had the opportunity to try on a Seestern 62MAS from a friend of mine, he is planning on returning it due to the movement no talking any wind and sounding strange like cogs rubbing.

In the mean time he has lend it to me see if I like it and fits. I like it for sure but not entirely sure about the fit. Here are some pictures, what do you say

Looks like too much watch, even though I like the aesthetic of it. I'm also not sure about its water resistance of 200 meters, so probably cannot enter the pool or the beach.
