Help finding a field with a display back and no date

I'm hoping some of you may have a suggestion.

I'm looking for a field style watch, 38-40mm, display caseback, no date, mechanical, ideally under $600 US.

I've only found a couple from Islander and a couple from Vaer.

If you want to know why... Keep reading... This is a gift for my (31 year old) son. He wears a dress quartz every day but his office just went casual so I am trying to get him interested in mechanical. I want the display caseback so he can see the engineering, no date because if he doesn't wear it every day I want it to be quick for him to set, & under $600 because if he doesn't take to a mechanical, it will end up sitting in a drawer.

Thanks for your suggestions!

I was going to suggest an Islander. Maybe the ISL 84 white dial or the 54 black dial. However you seem to have it covered with this one.

Yep - these are in my "B" list. I'd like to find something in more of a field style for him. Thanks

I think the Vaer is the ideal watch, particularly since it's assembled in America.

If you expand the criteria to include a date, the Vaer Atlas line is also a pretty interesting offering.

Edit: Vaer now also offers a pre-owned section, so you might find something interesting there in your price range. Right now they have a couple of D5 Atlantic, and a D5 Pacific(no date) divers for less than your max budget.

I do like Vaer a lot. I didn't know about the pre-owned section - thanks

I just discovered it today, when they sent out an email about a few other watches.

Yeah... I got an email and really like the new A5 atlas in Olive (for me, not my son)

I've been fighting the temptation to buy an Atlas ever since they released it.

I really like those. I bought a C5 for my other son almost 3 years ago and have been looking at Vaer ever since. I like them a lot and am happy to see them doing more with color. The main reason I haven't bought something else from them is I just don't need another black or white watch. But that Atlas in Olive is very tempting.

I picked up a D5 Atlantic when they were released a few years back. I like it, but with a GSAR in my collection, it's hard to justify wearing other divers.

The D5 Atlantic would be my choice if I was after another black diver. Really sharp
