I wish they came from the factory with an open case back. I don’t require it when I buy a watch but I wish more of my watches were visible.

I agree

I will lead with, it is your watch, do as you will with no regard for others.

That said, it will make the watch look anything but authentic, it will compromise the water proofing, and worse potentially damage the threading/become seized. Proceed with caution.

The waterproofing would be one of my concerns, but I guess I would avoid water and very carefuly thread one 😳

It is not just a matter of being carefully threaded. If it is a cheap metal (which it will be) it will seize in the threads. I see you are into cars, think of it as putting cheap lug nuts on a car. Visually it is akin to putting fake chrome plastic vents on a new AMG GT. Again, do what you will, but you run the risk of potentially severely damaging the watch and calling into question the authenticity.

I put one on my father's Datejust. I took it off because it added too much thickness.

Not worh it imo. Rolex movements aren’t much to look at as far as their finishing goes. Totally utilitarian

Aftermarket parts may not be a perfect fit for your watch. Although i wouldn't go so far as to say don't do it. I'm just cautioning you of the negative possibilities. Your watch your rules. 🤗

Many collectors told me not to polish the hand me down rolex my dad gave me, but after 2 years of ownership the multitudes of bracelet and case scratches just bothered me a lot, plus the ar coating on the cyclops on the crystal was exhibiting this rainbow effect. When i got the watch serviced at the rolex service center i went ahead and had it polished and crystal replaced. Couldn't be happier with the decision. To each their own.

Yup. I don't really agree with the warnings about fit. I buy plenty of pipe fittings for far cheaper than this and they don't leak. It's just a thread, not some sort of complicated device. If you actually plan on going deep underwater with it, I suppose you can get it pressure tested.

But the one I got from Custom Watch concepts made my Datejust stick out from the wrist. I also got one for my Speedmaster that was pretty thin, but I had to remove the inner cover to fit it in.

It's not too expensive, I don't think buying one is a bad thing. Then you have the option. In a few years, maybe they aren't available.

No, it won't demean it. You can screw it on or off in a matter of minutes.

There are aftermarket see thru case backs that were built for fake Rolex cases they sell to the peeps building watches. Might have to buy a case to get it but keep old one to sell with watch to keep it original

·

Despite acknowledging Rolex movement quality they are simply not nice to look at, hence better with closed caseback. New movements with opened caseback like Daytona yes but not the rest.
