First Orient Star

Another birthday watch to go with my new Christopher Ward C60 Sapphire, and a nice edition to my silver/white dialed watches. This is my first Orient Star and I’m impressed it’s a beautiful watch, and even though I still think a moonphase complication is one of the more useless ones I still like it.

So wait, this sunburst effect is a flat printing in a metallic color?

That’s how it looks.

Yeah never really paid much attention to them before but this one caught my eye, and I’m hooked now.

I have always thought that Orient Star are underrated. I get the feeling not a lot of love for them, but I have seen a few on WC and every one looks fantastic. I like yours a lot. I would love to see one in the flesh but like a few watches from the big boys (thinking Oceanus, Astron etc) you don't see many.

Agreed you don’t see a lot about them, but just like how I think Orient beat similarly priced Seikos this is a lot nicer than the Seiko Presages I’ve had.

How does the orient stars quality differ from a regular orient?, i toyed with the idea of purchasing one just after i bought my orient kamasu but decided not too. Stunning watch by the way 🤯!

I think, and we have people more educated than me on this here, Orient is a little like Seiko 5, a bit cheaper, and good watches, but maybe not the best quality, designs, specs, movement etc. Orient Star is more like Seiko Presage Sharp Edge line, they cost more and your expectations should be raised.

I've never thought of it like that, I usually thought of orient star to orient like grand seiko to seiko just in different price brackets, I may look further into possibly owning one as they do look amazing. Orient is such a solid brand that I feel like it would be hard to go wrong with the more premium end of orients.

Not sure I’d go as far as Grand Seiko as the price seems closer to high end Presage lines, and Grand Seiko movements are such a step up, but I think that’s the general idea.

They may be useless, but I love the symmetry of the power reserve indicator and the classic date/moon phase combination subdial. The open heart throws me off though.

I’m not normally a fan of an open heart, but I’m okay with it here, it might start annoying me later though, the honeymoon period has just started.
