King Seiko SPB 369 (6R55 movement)

Anyone familiar with this model? Prices are drifting down and the linen dial caught my attention. Thx.

Tried one on at an AD recently and gives elegant Grand Seiko vibes at a fraction of the price. You can also consider looking for a vintage example as well.

Thank you. I need to visit an AD to try one on for sure. Great point about vintage. I haven’t taken that step just yet but have been perusing EBay. Cheers.

I did the same as @Chronologics trying it on at an AD. Love the dial, but was unsure it was worth the price given the movement wasn’t anything over the top. The guy at the AD seemed to agree when I brought that up. It may be worth it, but at a discount for sure.

Thanks. Saw a JDM version for just under $1500. I’m thinking 950-1100 seems right if buying second hand.

Tried on all the new variants with the 6R55 movement at the AD. The 39mm models feel more on the sportier side but still dressy. I tried on the green and white dial variant in your photo. The green dial is an absolute stunner and the linen dial is more subtle but has a nice creamy hue to it in person like silk. The bracelet is also very good, lot of tiny details with polished and brushed surfaces but has a butterfly clasp which I personally don't prefer. The straight lugs design King Seiko models have SPB389 blue and SPB391 green linen dial variants if you want more options.

Definitely on the expensive side but the finishing is just on a different level, I would say comparable to entry-level GS. Also, good specs for daily wear. If you get a decent discount, then definitely a good buy.

Thanks. I’ve been focusing on the linen but will def look at the other dials.

These are the other three models with linen dials. Different case design with straight lugs but similar dimensions. Also there is faux patina lume on the hands.

The black dial jumps out as an immediate favorite.

Seiko calls it the charcoal suit variant. The texture is very subtle but makes the light play on the dial and give different hues. You definitely got to see that dial in person cause it is hard to explain how it appears.

The straight lug variants are $100 more than the other 6R55 variant but my AD said I can choose a leather strap from the straps collection that is available for the King Seiko models. Not sure if it is how the watch is sold but enquire if needed.

Hey man! I got the SPB279.

Image

I love EVERYTHING about it, except its size. At 37mm, it's too small. A watch needs to be this size for me to comfortably wear it on my 6.75" wrist...

Image

But, otherwise, it's an absolutely fantastic watch! For a fraction of the price, you're getting GS level finishing. The dial and indices are absolutely amazing.

If you're worried about the movement's precision, don't be. If you take it into any competent local watchmaker, simply have them regulate the watch for like $25 or whatever, and they'll get it down to COSC level precision. The movement is an absolute workhorse and as reliable as they come - would take the 6R movement over ANY in-house whatever 8-days a week.

Would offer to sell you mine, except every time I think about selling any of my watches, this happens...

Image

Just wish that it were properly sized at 48mm diameter!

I dunno. I’m sporting a 37mm Zodiac on my supersized wrist and I kind of like it!

Wow…the green dial plus lume make this a hard decision. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zjz9a0FG8zc&pp=ygUWI-ODgOOCpOOCouOCt-ODp-ODg-OCrw%3D%3D

I’ve seen these at my AD and all I would say from my stand point is that I was not quite sold on the design but in person every single sharp cut you see on the watch reflects the light in a very elegant fashion. I was pleasantly surprised.

·

I have the slightly-smaller version and i just love it. The angular forms, polishing, and brushing are gorgeous and it’s my favorite Seiko bracelet. I thought it was dressy when I bought it, but I’ve found myself wearing it with t-shirts all the time….

That’s a stunner. Is it SPB291?

Its the Olive suede dial. I have not seen this green dial in person from this KS varaint...only seen the black and indigo blue denim variant. The blue has dial similar to jeans texture, perfectly replicated so this should be similar in looks.

I never noticed the lume on the markers, thought it was only on the hands. The indices were super shiny and sparkled under the shop lights that I barely noticed the lume plots 😅

Yep. Very subtle color in bright light, but gets very purple as the light dims. I really love the case and bracelet designs, too. I can’t imagine I’ll ever put it on a strap.

If you ever think of selling it, DM me. I’d be interested.

How you still liking it?

I’ve been looking at this model as a means to fill the role of a Lorier Astra/UG Polerouter as well as the dressier Zephyr. This watch seems like it can go with any strap and therefore, any suit. The bracelet is also sporty but also lets it be elegant casual.

Thank you, sir. Unfortunately, even at its diminutive size, I still love the King Seiko - it reminds me of my dad and his fashion sense, and if for no other reason than to have something spark a momentary recollection of his style, I have to keep it!
