How durable is a mechanical watch?

This has come up a couple of times before. Mark from Long Island watch did a short video where a guy torture tests an Islander-

Worth watching if you ever had those questions.

His results mirrored mine.

A watch can survive a lot but longevity could be shortened because of it. The balance would be the weakest point even though it has shock settings. You can not argue with physics or gravity.

A good quality mechanical watch is far more durable than most people think. Many don't realize that before quartz came along, all watches were mechanical and people wore them golfing, mountaineering, working on cars and digging ditches. Even working jackhammers! They are not delicate as some believe. I'm not saying I'd wear a $100,000 Kari Voutilainen while motocross racing, but most decent sports watches are up to the challenge.
