If an AD sells you a watch, and its price is higher on the secondary market, and you personally prefer the cash to the watch, absolutely you should sell it! The voluntary transaction generates significant producer surplus for you
If a buyer buys the watch from you, the buyer values the watch more than the cash he is handing over; otherwise, no transaction would take place. Thus, the buyer generates significant consumer surplus for himself
Surplus is just another fancy word for "happiness"
When you buy a Rolex from an AD, and immediately flip it on the secondary market, you are creating happiness out of thin air - you are doing god's work. I can think of no better definition for "good" than the ability to create happiness out of thin air. The only other things that can reliably do so are Gandalf and cocaine

Therefore, go forth and do god's work, my friend!
I love this reply so much! IF I ever do this it will be to buy another non-Rolex watch, I respect Rolex, but not my favorite brand to wear. So this’ll create even more happiness.
But if the higher secondary market price, turn out be be a myth (!) will you get tripple unhappiness... You will first be very very unhappy on the market, then on yourself and finally with a watch you didn't really want, until you sell it anyhow and loose money... And you may even make people around you unhappy, because of your very low and totally unhappy mode!

why would anyone NOT want to make a quick buck? Because most people here in WC are hobbyist not traders.
Yes, because one actually wants the watch and money isn’t everything.
No reason whatsoever.

In my case I’d be fine with just keeping a Rolex. I’d probably rather flip it, but if that weren’t possible it’s not a bad thing to be stuck with.

You’re probably right. I have my name in. We’ll see what happens. More of a long term plan.
