Rolex Milgauss Opinions

I’m considering a Milgauss. I want to own one Rolex and I think this is the one. Any thoughts on this model? Anyone have one and love/hate/have opinions on it?

I have an 8in wrist so the 40mm case works perfect for me.

Dude, are you me?

I’m not typically a fan of Rolex. I owned an OP41 in silver, and sold it on 3 days into ownership, because I realized I’m just not that into the tool watch aesthetic.

But, the one and only Rolex that I think is actually gorgeous is that Milgauss Z-Blue! Meanwhile, everyone else seems to hate the Milgauss!

·

We’re definitely on the same page!

I think the Milgauss is the only Rolex that’s truly a conversation piece and not just because it’s a Rolex.

·

It's my number three dream Rolex...

1. Explorer. 2. Submariner no date 3. Milgauss 4. OP 36 blue

The rest of their lineup is nice, but these are the ones that grab me.

Great watch for so many reasons. You would be owning an aspirational brand while boldly striding outside of the mainstream choices of the big R. I absolutely love this watch in person and agree that for someone confining themselves to one Rollie in their mix this is a great choice. I'm fairly confident I'll own one at some point.

The Milgauss is a great model with a long history. Unless you are thinking about going Celini, you cannot go wrong with a Rolex. A Milgauss is a great option for a daily driver. It can be worn with a suit or in casual clothes. Yes, it does not have a date function, which can be useful, but if you can live with that then go for it. I have an Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch and I am used to not having a date function. I know that there has been a change in the market, and the price of Rolex has come down recently. The crazy prices were not sustainable, and I knew that there was going to be a correction in the market at some point in the future. Now prices are lower, it is a good time to buy. Prices will bounce back at some point, but not to the crazy levels that they were in mid-Covid.

·

Thanks. You MUST be right about the prices. So nuts!

Thanks. I totally agree. I tried one on at an AD today and I liked it a lot more than I thought I would.

I live in LA so I don’t often find myself in a suit but still good to have a watch that can be dressed up.

·

Have one, it’s the only Rolex I own, which makes me a pariah in Rolex circles. I like the weight on the wrist, and it’s probably one of the most versatile watches. Prices are daft, but there were rumours of discontinuing the line, so speculation was a part of the problem.

·

This is also my part of my top 3 Rolex I want and was number 1 for a long time…the cheer facts that it stands out so much for the rest of the line makes me want it. But it is also beautiful in its own right! Needs to be seen in person to truly appreciate everything at play here. The only part I like less is the bezel. I understand that the watch is already busy as it is so a muted bezel is probably the way to go but I still feel a but bothered by it. Oh and of course the Z-blue is the version to get, all the other ones (except for the OG) pale in comparison IMO.

·

I like many of the Rolex models but I agree with the opinions above that the Milgauss stands out from it’s siblings. I think it’s a great all rounder. Minor drawbacks are that it’s a bit top heavy and has a somewhat limited power reserve of 48h. Nothing that a tighter bracelet and frequent use can’t help.

·

Milgauss was my first Rolex. I bought it in 2009 for 4,500 USD!!, no waitlist, just walked in and bought. 😂

This is me as well, exactly.

·

100% the same. If I were to get a Rollex, it would almost certainly be a Milgauss. Though I think I'd go for the white dial.

I'm not a Rolex hater by any means, but I don't think wearing most Rolexes would feel quite right on me. But the Milgauss is the major exception. Colored dial Oyster Perpetuals and Explorers are other possible exceptions, but the Milgauss is the one I get actually excited about.

·

I bought a black dial Milgauss last month and love it.

If you're going via an AD you might struggle (more than usual) - the rumours of the Milgauss getting discontinued have been around for a while but many are predicting it happening at this year's Watches and Wonders. I know the Watches of Switzerland group have closed the list on all Milgauss models - which apparently does not happen when a model is getting updated.

The grey market prices have been going up too in anticipation.

I'm in L.A. too, 5th generation. Though my wife and I do find opportunities here and while traveling to dress up I think the Milgaus pulls off the jeans and sweater look quite well.

It was at one of the local watch gatherings where I got to try on both a white dial Milgaus and this bad boy, my favorite. Hope to see you out at one of the meet ups.

·

Love the blue/green combo.

Thanks! For non-Angelenos, 5th generation means you’re basically descended from a city founder. :)

I'm locked in now! Lol My Pops was born in L.A.General Hospital in the 30's and his father in the living room of a Bunker Hill house that no longer exists. The other side hails from Wintersburg which is now a little town known as Surf City aka Huntington Beach. I 💘 SoCal warts and all.

·

The Milgauss is one of my dream watches. I love the aesthetic and overall science and engineering history behind it. It's certainly a left-field option, but that's what I'm all about. I think it's far more interesting than many other Rolex models. Even though I haven't seen one in the flesh, I'd recommend it.

See you Dodger stadium this season!

I know I go against the grain on this, but I despise the look of the lightning bolt seconds hand.

But . . . but . . . that's one of the thing that makes it so unique! 😎

·

The watch has demonstrably increased magnetic resistance and you are unhappy - and now you just care about the timekeeping... I hope one day you may eventually have your cake and eat it too.

·

You had to go and google the magnetic resistance of the Milgauss after slagging it off… congratulations, this is a pyrrhic victory for you. Enjoy your Omega.

·

Milgaus is one of the few pieces that Rolex makes that doesn’t really fit what most people think of as ROLEX. I love it for that reason alone. The Z Blue is the ultimate expression of that. Get it, love it, where it in good health!

·

The Milgauss is a nice watch, and yes, it would fit your wrist in a nice way.

Just 2 things to keep in mind:

It is shiny (polished lugs)

The case is heavy and on the thicker side.

·

Been on the waiting list foe over a year for a Milgauss.

·

Thanks to this post I've placed the Milgauss back on my wishlist as a contender retirement or next promotion watch haha. I'm so easily swayed.

·

Arm twisted!

·

Its perfect. I might want it with the fluted bezel though.

·

I don’t really like Rolex but this was the only one I ever had. This would definitely be the one I would recommend. It’s different than the others. I love the electric bolt orange second hand. That did it for me.

The milgauss is a special watch. Green sapphire crystal, orange lighting bolt second hand, sharp downturned lugs. Black is the best choice imo.

Still on the waiting list… 🤞
