A watch that just makes sense to me

So it has been a while since I have been lusting over the new explorer 36mm which was released a couple years ago.

From a collection perspective, owning the first watch on the moon (3861) and the first watch to summit Everest brings cohesive benefits. And yes, I know it’s more a watch inspired by the actual prototype, and there’s also debate on whether it even made it to the summit 🤣.

Then there’s the connection back to Sir Edmund Hillary, a fellow New Zealander, tying me back to my home country.

The timing of getting the call couldn’t have been any more perfect. I will be picking this up on my way to the airport, as my family and I embark on a 12 month adventure in South Africa. A watch worthy of exploring? Time will tell.

I can’t wait to make memories with this piece. I suspect it will be getting more wrist time vs my Omega speedy Hesalite while abroad. I’m hoping that my daughters will see the connection I am planning to build with it too, and I look forward to day that I will be passing it on to them. (Oh God am I cheesy and flaky hahaha)

A little story behind a little watch.

Would love to hear other stories from other members when they first got their Explorer 1 (all sizes. I don’t discriminate. 😆)

Big Congrats and happy that you enjoying every moment of it. I don’t have a Rolex yet but that Man on the moon watch is on my bucket list for sure. The fun thing is about these time pieces is the history and the great memories we share the pictures and places we go to.
