Rados

The rado original diver is one of the best made watches ive ever owned. So good that i got a captain cook in green as well.

The brand doesn't get a lot of love , but they are great watches,  and use a wide variety of materials in their construction.

Although the original diver is quite rare these days, you can pick up a decent used example for about £500 . I don't think you can buy a better watch for £500 , than this, from any watch maker. The tungsten carbide bezel is impossible to scratch , and the bracelet and titanium fold over clasp feels premium. These are incredible watches for so little money. Same with the cook, although not as well built , they don't seem to scratch either. The steel used is 316 , I believe , but it's very bright and tough. If only more expensive watches were made as well as these beautys .

Yes it's a nice watch , but I struggle to get a good fit on the bracelet,  due to no micro adjustment on the clasp. Was thinking of flipping it, because I don't wear it as much as I should do. Although my son has his eye on it , so that's not really an option , lol.

The diastar design is really quite modern , considering it's quite old now. This original diver is no longer made , although rado do have some similar designs to this now , in both quartz and automatic. They stopped making this model in 2010 I believe. Did a nice green version too. It's such a well made watch, although I think it would of been around £1300 or more when new. These are incredible watches, and can be picked up for around £500 ish used, if your lucky enough to find one.

Yes he loves his watches too. And most of mine, but he will have to wait a bit longer yet , before he gets his mitts on them !!!

They do pop up on eBay from time to time, but their not as popular as they should be. I recently purchased a seiko sla043 which costs about 4k. These rados are better made , and I'm a massive seiko fan . Obviously not everyone likes them because they are a bit blingy . But I can honestly say I haven't handled a better built watch than these , and I'm talking omega rolex tudor etc ...  although The bracelet is integrated,  the lugs are hinged so they conform to your wrist. The butterfly clasp is also brilliantly designed not bulky at all. If omega made this watch it would be over 10k for sure .

Now you've got me really excited about this Rado!

Now you've got me really excited about this Rado!

It is quite a heavy watch , especially for its 39mm size, and compared to the captain cook, which could be mistaken for a quartz, as it's so light on rados leather deployment clasp strap. It's built like a tank , but in a refined way.

The one with the tungsten carbide bezel is one I've been eyeing for a long time. Looks absolutely gorgeous.

I really like the case of the original diver.  Funky.

It's not everybody's cup of tea , but it's beautifully built. I actually got that watch in a charity shop , hard to believe I know , but true. Got it in 2014 , no box or papers , but in great condition for £300. It's probably my best ever bargain, and got me into collecting higher quality watches.

Yes it's quite unique by design.

Rado offers great quality, although their designs are mostly a "you either love it or you hate it" thing. Love the Captain Cook and Golden Horse. Rado is also the only company I've ever seen get a butterfly clasp less wrong than the usual sort of wrong (I absolutely loathe butterfly clasps)

Not a fan of butterfly clasps myself, but rados design is the best I've seen.
