Successor to the venerable SKX : Pelagos FXD or alternative ?

Still pursuing the perfect fit collection quest, one I  know I will never fulfil, I am considering an upgrade for my summer / beach / water activities watch.

This highly strategic position is currentlty occupied by the ever good looking SEIKO SKX007 on Nato strap.

I will keep this classic but I am considering upgrading with a TUDOR Pelagos FXD.

My main concerns are :

  • ligth weight, the lighter the better when hot oceanic days are here

  • better quality / finishing than the old venerable SKX

  • 20 ATM/ 200m water-resistant or better (lets say a minimum of 10 ATM ?)

  • Nato secure strap (fixed bars are a welcome plus)

  • ideally chronometer grade

  • ideally no date

As you see, the Pelagos FXD ticks all boxes perfectly.

But before pulling the trigger, I was wondering what would be the watch nerds community suggestions, advices or alternatives :-)

For fixed lugs I can't think of anything better than an FXD. If you want to stay with traditional lugs look at the Pelagos 39 titanium, that would be extremely light and wearable, even lighter on a nato. You also could consider a Tag Heuer Aquaracer titanium solar. Again, very light, very accurate.

As an owner of both an SKX and a 42mm Pelagos... You can't go wrong with Tudor. I love both the FXD and the 39 too. My wrists make more sense for the 42mm Pelly, and the blue one I got my hands on earlier this year is constantly on wrist. Can't wait to see what you decide on!

I have not yet considered a TAG Heuer Aquaracer, thanks for the suggestion.

The only problem with the fxd is getting one at retail,I've been waiting over 1yr

You answered your own questions and concerns. It was designed for Combat divers at their request. Nuff said.

Tudor FXD is the perfect choice if you can find one!

Well, you have a point : availability is the elephant in the room 😬

As an owner of an FXD, and having a thread on here of wearing it straight for 1 year on several different straps I've come to some conclusions. To me it is hands down the best generalist watch I've ever had. Understanding that it was created for combat swimmers aside it fits in everywhere I've taken it. Work check, shooting range and training Check, Dinner with the spouse check. I've even worn it with a tux. Sort of James Bondish I'll admit but it still worked. The one caveat is unless you have larger wrists it can appear clunky. I have huge wrists so it works for me. You really can't go wrong with any of the Pele line. The 39 is a tad small for me but I'd glad rock it for a year like my FXD.

I have asked my AD about availability today. He answered me that he received three FXD so far and that the awaiting / wish list is so important he no longer takes names 😅
