Tried out the new Longines Conquest Chronograph

Last week, I had the chance to try out the latest chronograph offering from Longines: the Conquest Chronograph.

At 42mm, I assumed that I would be okay with the size since I'm normally used to wearing large watches anyway. Trying it on though.. wow this one is a bit too big, even for me, which is a bit of a shame since it is a really good looking piece. I really wanted to see the blue variation in person.

The watch is powered by the caliber L898, which is an ETA-based automatic anti-magnetic modular chronograph movement. 42mm in diameter and 14mm thick.

When pictures came out, people were calling this a Daytona alternative, or a direct shot at Tudor's Black Bay Chrono line. In my opinion, if they made the lug-to-lug of this watch just a little bit smaller, or find some other way to make this feel less top-heavy, it could've actually had a shot of matching up to the expectations.

Unfortunate the sizing wears larger than expected. Thought this release looked fantastic apart from the butterfly clasp. Hoping to try one of these on once they find their way to my AD - particularly the champagne dial variant.

I’m not a big chronograph fan but that one I have to say it’s really nice.

What is the lug to lug?

I cannot say for certain, but in terms of overall wearing experience, this watch wears way bigger than a typical 42mm. If I were to compare, it wears almost like a 45mm watch due to the shape of the case, not even mentioning the 14.3mm thickness.

This wears bigger than a Breitling Avenger 43 or a Tudor Black Bay Chrono for sure, and that says a lot, but that is just my opinion.
