Charles Depollier's 1917 Booklet, "The Watch in the Trenches"

Somebody on Instagram asked me about Charles Depollier's 1917 booklet "The Watch in the Trenches" after I posted an advertisement that mentioned the booklet the other day.

Here it is in its entirety.

This truly is a fascinating look into the mind of an American horological genius, his legendary watches and technology.

As of right now, this is the ONLY known copy of Depollier's booklet still in existence!

This booklet, plus SO much more about Depollier's WWI trench watches can be read in my latest book (341 pages), "The Inconvenient Truth about the World's First Waterproof Watch, the Story of Charles Depollier and his Waterproof Trench Watches of the Great War".

ENJOY!

Very cool! Was just talking to a friend about WW1 trench watches

I know what I'll be reading in bed tonight

Thx for sharing !

Thanks for your research 👌

Great read. I liked the idea of non-explosive, unbreakable glass. Those poor soldiers had enough to worry about, without having to wonder if their watches would blow up in their faces.

I read it , wow that takes you back into history….

Excellent post Stan, good of you to release the images of this booklet, even though it is just one huge advertisement!

I thought you might like this advert from a book I was reading, showing an Avia "Savetime" model. Looks familiar, doesn't it?

Lots of Depollier watches with Rode Watch Co. branding, even shows the Depollier patent for the double clinched crystal!
