When a watch is smaller than usual, I find a way to visually scale it up.

My Longines Weems Pilot Watch, reference L2.606.4, is true to the proportions and form of the vintage WW2 models that served the British RAF and USAF. I love the authentic reproduction of the scale and details of this watch.

It is one of the few watches which I actually want to visually scale up with more "complex" strap designs such as a bund or in this case a cuff leather strap. The watch is small and thin that it barely adds any bulk to a bund or cuff strap.. which is why I would normally not use them on most any other watches.

Very interesting. I thought the Weems watches were all quite large. This looks manageable. What’s the case size?

interesting thought. I’m wearing a watch i feel needs more wrist presence today. I wonder if I can find a bund that works with it.

Manageable? Depends if you're ok with what is likely a much smaller watch than you may be used to.

They break traditional perceptions of a pilot watch. They were actually 33mm. They even started off a bit smaller at 27mm. Later, these pilot watches eventually developed hacking seconds and thus the second-setting bezel was no longer needed. So, they eventually lost the bezel and 2nd crown and also scaled up a bit to I think 36mm. You can see a modern reissue example in one of Longines current (I think) production which looks like some vintage Omega Seamasters of similar no bezel design.

Nice piece too

FYI, this watch is 33mm. U can see one my previous posts with this watch on a brown bund leather strap. For ref, my wrist size is 6.9".

Nvm I see it’s 33mm.

If you like them, cool. A bund strap will never find its way on my wrist.

·

That is an awesome look. The historical throw back is cool too.

Thanks. Agree.

Definitely agree.

That Longines looks fantastic on the bund! That bund is perfect for the watch.

I use bunds all the time on smaller watches since I have a 7.5 inch wrist. They are great for the vintage WWI and WWII watches. You can also use Kitchener straps which are a different variant on a "bund".

Here are a few examples...

Yes. This isn't really a bund. More of a cuff strap. But,thanks, all the same.

I have shown this on a brown bund before, too.

On occasion, if I were to do a simpler more traditional 2 piece strap or 1 piece passthrough, being 16mm, it would have to be a straight no taper design to keep it from slipping into the dainty realm.

I love that watch but there is no scaling enough to make it work with my XL paws.

That's just the way they made them back in WW2 regardless of paw sizes. Still a watch for the warriors of the Air

They also were wearing it as a tool for a specific task, that is different than a modern use.

I always found these ww2 very interesting. What’s the thickness with the leather under it.
