A more than just decent GMT choice. Glycine Combat Sub GMT GL0381

In regards to the new Seiko "5KX" GMT just announced, I think it's pretty cool and a long time coming. Glad they finally made them and I can see new variations at least once every other month or so as Seiko is quick to capitalize on new and popular models with new and seemingly endless stream of color variations... and, of course, limited and special editions. They look good and based on the tried and true workhorse 4R movement, it is pretty certain to be a solid GMT movement. And, priced pretty competitively if they are supposed to be around the $500 mark.

That being all said, this post isn't necessarily about those new Seiko watches. But, the current alternatives to them. I was of course hyped to get one.. at least the idea swam around my head for a little moment. Then, it also got me to pull out my Glycine Combat Sub GMT GL0381which I haven't worn in a while.

I think this makes a great current alternative and why I don't need a new 5KX GMT.

Comparable in cross dimension size at 42mm (the 5KX being a smidge larger at 42.5mm, if I'm not mistaken).

It also has 22mm lug width. The lug to lug may be a bit longer on the Glycine. But, the Combat Subs have been awesome with their excellent downturn lugs that just hugs around the wrist so comfortably.

The Combat Subs have also always been awesome with how thin they can be.. about 10.85mm thin, compare that to the new 5KX GMT which actually is a little thicker than the standard non-GMT version which was already 13.25 comes in now at about 13.6mm, if I'm not mistaken.

And, other bonuses to the Glycine Combat Sub GMT... Sapphire Crystal, lumed bezel pip, 200m WR, screwdown crown. I didn't see anywhere that mentions how the new 5KX GMT bezels work. How many clicks? I would hope bidirectional, too, and not just a redeco unidirectional dive bezel.

Don't get me wrong. I'm really do like the new Seiko GMT. And, if I didn't already own a pretty good one already that runs likely close to this new one, I'd seriously consider one.. whenever they have a Pepsi bezel version which isn't likely to take very long. But....

Anyways, just wanted to say I'm glad I got my Glycine back on rotation today and I may just appreciate it that much more when I think of the alternatives, both current and new.

That particular watch seriously has me wishing that I had it instead of my GL0076.  I keep coming back to stare at it.

That's a great looking GMT, especially for the money.

Is your watch a pre-Invicta Glycine?

I also have a post-Invicta Glycine.  No complaints with it.  It keeps great time.

I've only owned post Invicta Glycines  as far as I know. And, I think I've owned quite a few. I've never had any issues. They've all ran great and seem quality built. They're made in same Swiss factory as they've always been. I don't know why people so turned off with the connection? I think Invicta essentially helps pay to keep their lights on. Other than that, I see little to no negative influence from Invicta.
