I was gifted a fashion watch...

And I have social pressure to wear it! Actually I was gifted TWO fashion watches by my coworkers as birthday gifts. Besides the akward social pressure, I realised it's true that ppl don't notice what you wear, they just noticed I wear a watch, so they bought a watch. This experience made me realise three things:

It's hard to notice the features of a watch in a normal social interaction.

Getting a watch as a gift can be a curse.

Fashion watches are really bad.

As a mini review of this nautica watch, the seconds hand always miss the markers, the chrono function does not work, neither the other functions, it just tells the time. Weirdly the strap is better than the watch.

I think I will wear them at work somedays then I will phase them out.

Have you had experiences like mine?

What did you did?

Yes, my 83 year old Dad got me a wooden "Bobo bird" quartz watch.

I think I've worn it twice, bless him .

Not with a watch but I had a great aunt who used to knit terrible sweaters as Christmas gifts for all the family - every year.

Lesson learned was to wear them with good grace … especially when she was around. It meant a lot to her and was a small sacrifice.

I think your approach is the right one and make a particular point to wear it when you’re having meals out or team meeting events.

Is there a family prize? 😉

Yeah, my wife bought me a couple of watches that definitely weren't ones I would have picked. One was a Relic skeleton in black and gold. The other was a Bering solar in black and gold. I wear the Bering occasionally and make sure she sees it on my wrist. I sold the Relic after I told her the movement broke. 😉
