Be still my heart...CW C63 Carbon Sealander

I'm trying to put together a minimalist, two watch, do it all, "collection". The first watch for GADA is a black dial Christopher Ward C63 Sealander in 36mm. I feel like this is a great day to day and on the right strap will dress up to any level my simple live requires.

So for the second watch I was thinking of something sportier, but less expensive and suitable for traveling maybe. A couple of good choices from Seiko in my mind and then....CW dropped this announcement.

I've always been a sucker for light weight and hi tech. So this....this...well. What do you think?

That photo is of the new C63 Colchester due out soon, 41mm and around £1090.00.

It’s the first Christopher Ward I’m drawn to.

A cracking looking watch and I too am tempted.

As a second piece, perhaps look at CTimex M79, Bulova Oceanographer or Hamilton Khaki Navy Scuba.

The Oceanographer's a bit big lug to lug. I like the Hamilton. I'd try to find out what the lug to lug is on it. Thanks for the suggestions!

What’s your budget ?

Elliot Brown are a serious contender if you like military and are amazingly priced

Well the Seikos I'm looking at are in the $500-$600 retail range...this CW is outside of the "original project spec" but was too cool not to share.

I'm not interested in military or field watches generally. More straight sport, and in this price range a bit of homage is welcome. Think "Sei-tona".

And size is a real consideration with my 6.25" wrist. The Sealander I have is the 36mm. And whatever I choose, I'd like to have the date, sort of a count down on the vacation if you will.

Elliot Brown's are legit.

Military or not they make fantastic, hard wearing, easy to wear watches.

Look at the Tyneham, in black it's really smooth looking.

Here's my Holton Pro and Beachmaster NIVO.

This is the second Christopher Ward post that I have come across today! Both times my eyes lit up 😳 And now I'm going off on a deep dive into their collection ☺️

·

I know some aren't fans of the name brand spelled out on the dial but I like it on this one. I also like the lack of the trident seconds hand. (Again, just on this model) I like this a lot. I suppose I should be signed up for their news letter.

Totally agree, I’ve just written reviews on the Holton NIVO, Bronze Holton Auto, Bloxworth Chronograph, Bloxworth Heritage and Canford Mountain Rescue.

For the money, they are amazing, I’m definitely going to add the NIVO to my collection

The Colchester has been out for a while unless they have updated it in some way, which they may have done to change to the new logo.

I stumbled on this on IG but I find the company interesting overall. I'm sorely tempted to get on the list for this.

Oh nooo.... I was set on the Sinn U50 as my dream watch... Or the Formex Essence Green dial.. And now CW releases this banger of a watch and I'm confused all over again.

·

Interesting. I've had an eye on the Formex in forged carbon; I tried it on at Windup. On paper, the specs are almost identical, right down to the diameter and Sellita chronometer movement. Both are made of carbon, though the Formex has a ceramic bezel. Does anyone know if they're a real difference between "forged carbon" and "injected carbon?" The Formex comes with their signature "case suspension system," and strap with carbon fiber clasp with micro-adjustment.

The Formex costs quite a bit more, but not as much as it looks like on paper. Interestingly, Formex says the price, just under $2,000, includes all taxes and import duties, while Christopher Ward tacks both onto the price when you check out, so the real price for me is a bit over $1,500.

Anyway, the Formex caught my eye, and I wonder how the Christopher Ward compares. I really like the looks of both of them, though truth be told I'm not likely to get either any time soon.

Not sure, but on their website it says Pre Order, so no idea

·

Just checked out the Colchester on the CW site. Impressive specs, and although not a small watch, not as large as it appears in pics. Didn’t realize the dial is partially skeletonized and it has a display back. Love the pop up titanium crown, and of course the overall look!

·

That is a good looking watch!

Personally though, I'd look elsewhere for a daily driver, especially in a two watch collection. Those proportions are going to wear pretty big on a small wrist, even if it's light. Kind of like wearing a G Shock. I love a G Shock when I have need of one, but even a Square is too bulky to be comfortable on the daily for my little wrist.

·

The CW Colchester is out for quite a while and I like it specially due to the ‚old‘ logo. I can warmly recommend the watch, although a light-weight, it feels premium and comparable to many of my pricier watches.
