To sell or not to sell… (Omega Seamaster)

I am considering selling my black dial Omega SMP 2021, that I bought new, in order to buy the Omega Seamaster 2254.50.

The reason being is because although I absolutely love the modern SMP, I do feel it’s a bit to flash for some situations. But I’m torn because I do still love it.

I love the old vintage mil spec feel of the 2254.50 and feel it could truly be a GADA watch for my lifestyle.

(Although I’m still hoping omega releases something new this year for the seamaster diver line. Any insider scoops on that? 😅)

As an owner of the 2254.40, I voted to go for the neo-vintage! The sword hands are amazing. Lume is still like a torch all these years later. It is thin (in comparison). The bracelet tapers. It doesn't have outside AR that can scratch. It also feels like it is a military watch when worn on NATOs. The modern Seamaster is beautiful too, but I think it is a tad behind the 2254.50. Plus you should pocket some money too on the transaction. You will have to weigh it for yourself. Here are a few pics of my 2254.50 on non-OEM straps:

That’s an amazing looking watch!

Similar dilemma, but I'm saving for one.

Keep your SMP & save, it's not a race (or it's a marathon not a sprint).

One for tomorrow, one just for today 🎶

Good advice 😉it’s a dangerous game we play as collectors!!!

You are really selling me on the 2254… amazing looking watch! Perfectly understated and classy

I went back and forth on a similar choice for a while. For me it was new SMP (grey or green) vs older blue TI SMP…. I decided that I really prefer the newest and most up to date technology. Then I realized that my 300 heritage was all the Diver I needed. Instead of a SMP I’m saving for a AquaTerra Day/Date or maybe Explorer 40 or E2. I’m still deciding.

It is interesting to hear your thought process on this, love how you came to that conclusion! I have often felt that about keeping the modern SMP black dial... and after doing this survey it kind of got me out of my own head and I decided for now to keep the most modern iteration due to technology, durability, etc... Maybe the 2254.50 is a good watch for me to get later on.

I am also still holding out hope that Omega will release a mid-sized, more tool-oriented diver this year. I still feel their 75th-anniversary release was underwhelming for such a big milestone. And so far they are the only big brand that doesn't have a solid 39mm-40mm diver bolstering their product line. It seems all brands are taking notice of smaller case-size variants being popular and allowing more people to buy. I know the 39.5mm planet ocean is there but the design feels a bit dated at this point.

Anyways thanks for the feedback!

I’ve been hearing that the blue Seamaster release was just stage one. There’s more coming over the rest of the year. Fingers crossed.

I had a similar dilemma but I opted for the 2254.50. The dimension and overall feeling is just better. The new one just feels for me too big, bulky and chuncky wheras the 2254.50 has really nice proportions, is thin and not so heavy. I know that the movement in the new one is better but at the end in daily life it does not give me advantages.
