Omega SMP 2023 Predictions?

Does anyone have reason to believe Omega will reduce the size of the SMP back to 41mm or even a nice 40mm case x 47mm lug to lug this year?

I have owned this black dial 2021 SMP for over a year and absolutely love the modern execution of this SMP EXCEPT for the 42mm x 50mm lug to lug…. The old school 47.5mm lug to lug was perfect, but the design execution not as good as the modern imo. I still wear this watch regularly and love it but constantly find myself wishing it were a smaller lug to lug and case size…

Before anyone starts mentioning the 36mm quartz, it’s really not my cup of tea as it goes to the opposite end of the spectrum of being to small a diver and it also is just not as well executed of dial finish and date location imo.

I can still rock this on my 6.6 inch wrist and I think it looks good, but would be better if slightly slimmed down. I have it on the forstner flat link bracelet here which helps it wear smaller.

I have this fantasy that Omega will release the SMP identical to this design, but to more wearable proportions. It seems to be that’s where a lot of the industry is headed. Thoughts??

(I do have my eye on the vintage 2007 casino royale reference 2220.80.00 41mm x 12.7mm x 47.5mm 👌)

There has to be an anniversary model on the way. And surely they'll go more traditional. But personally I don't mind the size as it is.

I am with you on this - want this watch, but I would want it as you said at a 40/47 type size. We can always hope.

·

yes lets hope they reduce or they just add a midsize version in the 39 to 40mm range 🙏🙏🙏

·

I hope not. 42mm is not big and all that downsizing nowadays is not what I like.

I can respect that. I just think it’s odd how they offer the aqua terra, planet ocean, Speedmaster, and some other models in close to 3 different case sizes and bracelet options… but for the seamaster professional, no different case sizes or bracelet options. Although I still love the SMP 42mm, it would be nice to have the option for 39 or 40.

Yeah and they have so many other models they offer in multiple sizes. Why not do that for the SMP? (And while they’re at it throw on a flat link bracelet 😮‍💨)

Adding a mid size version I think would just be so smart for them. They already do it for so many models.

Omega will have to figure out how to make the MC-certified movement smaller. SMP300 uses 8800, which is the smallest movement they currently make. (It's the one that is fitted inside 34 and 38mm Aqua Terra) They couldn't even fit the bigger 8900 inside the SMP300 case.

(either that or try to make the smaller case that can be 300m WR-capable)

You are correct. I understand it is an amazing movement, I do think omega has the level of craftsmanship and engineering to get the same tech smaller. But I wonder how much it really matters to them to do it right now.
