Is there such a thing as to many black dial divers?

I can’t help it, I always gravitate towards the black dial 🙈I suppose some might call this not a very diverse collection, but to me each watch is different.

As of late me too but trying to balance the force and get more white/lighter dials…

Dark Side (a few of my collection) ok storm troopers are on this side too since they were originally created to help the Jedi’s until you know who intervened 😜

Changing the strap or bracelet almost makes it look like this is another watch.

It’s your collection, you do you. Then again, on a daily situation, it might make choosing one difficult. I’d go with th SMP 300 Heritage for GADA. You can send the rest of the watches to me for safe keeping.

But...they're all different looking!

That’s why I posted this, for affirmation and group support 😂

So glad you posted this, feeling much less guilty about having so many watches. (The photo is only half my collection) 😂 I have to say after seeing all your black dial watches, it doesn’t seem so crazy! Beautiful collection

Sounds like a plan 😂 I agree, I think the 300 heritage is the never sell keeper. Along with the Vaer as it got me into the next level up of watches for me at the time.

It would be very interesting if you did a F/Marry/Kill poll on this collection.

And yes, I’d take good care of whatever you send my way 😂.

Yes.....LOL

There is no such thing at all if that is what you like! 😎👍😜 Many years ago I had a Rolex 1655, a Rolex Subby, and another black faced chronograph. I decided I needed to branch out, so I bought the Explorer II Polar. I never wore it and sold it a year later. We all like what we like! 😀

Very wise words!! I’m new to collecting higher end pieces, only as of the last 14 months as I can now afford it. So I’ve been on a quest to find the perfect black dial diver, and the problem is that I get attached to all of them and they all feel so different 😂

·

I also have several black dials. Like you, I’m usually drawn to them but I do try and diversify where I can. That being said, sometimes black just looks best and it goes with everything.

It’s interesting to me because I also face the same dilemma: too many black dial divers. But I thinks there’s a certain beauty to facing an issue of this sort in the hobby that we’ve all fallen into. I believe it’s time for self reflection. I’ll try to detail my thought process in this particular situation best as I can. For me, this was an opportunity to ask myself what each of these watches means to me when taken as a piece of a whole. What I mean by this is that when we’re generally scrolling through Instagram, or any other compilation of watchc images, we’re looking at individual watches that jump out at us and evoke an emotion. Even though we might consider it alongside our collection, we ca. ily do so theoretically. It’s only when the watch that our desires have pushed us to “pull the trigger” on arrives does the actual process start. The way it feels, the way it wears, and that indescribable “it” feeling which keeps that watch strapped to your wrist longer than others can we truly begin to h dertand it’s place. At this point each person differs imho: some are flippers, others are sentimental, but all of us are irrational. To me, I want my time ounces to serve a function and fill a gap but I also want each of them to get wear. I’ve gotten to a post where I have 14 watches and I’d be lying if I said that I wear them all. But there are irrational reasons I can’t let go of the ones I don’t wear! At this point for me, I have to take all g hard look at what I truly want and make a decision and jump. Decision paralysis is a very real thing in this hobby and all of us, to Selma degree or another, have financial limits. But even more than that, I think we all want to enjoy what we have in our collections to the fullest extent. Often times I think of those patinaed watches that people desire, and we tend to forget that the reason that those watches have Pacino is not because they were made of suboptimal materials, it is because they were worn. They were worn a lot, in fact. I’m now veering towards quality over quantity and want to own pieces which I love for a variety of reasons, and I can make memories with.

Wow thanks for sharing this! Very interesting thoughts. The psychology behind what drives us as “collectors” is fascinating… sometimes I think it has just become consumerism on steroids for me, but the interesting things is that unlike clothing, watches feel like they are for me personally, and not to impress… even with the bigger brand names. And that is why they become so sentimental…. An odd phenomenon. Obsessing over which watches to have in the collection and not have seems counterproductive, but I continue to do it 😂

It's natural for an old diver like me, also highly legible and functional. I have a disproportionate amount of black dials in my collection as well. The dial color isn't the only variable when mixing up your collection. Enjoy what you like.

Appreciate the words 👏 I am getting my open water diver certification this weekend and I couldn’t be more excited! That may be what’s driving my obsession of dive watches 😂

·

I think you've got an excellent collection, I'm loving almost all of them especially that Farer 😍 awesome watches dude 👍🏼

·

No way! Unless it is an Orange Doxa.😊

Yeah I love black dialed tool watches in general, particularly divers so I sympathize. Like to change it up though also

The struggle is real!

Cool name and a lovely set of watches! I could probably lose the Vaer but none of the rest!

Why loose the Vaer?

Haha…no such thing as too many black dial watch’s, or maybe there is if your not colour blind…

I sold my other watches with colour dials or white ones. Just don’t get any use out out of them!

I wear colour though and not afraid of it.

Well said! This is actually a really good point. I give each of these watches a decent amount of wear and I also have different black dial divers for different trips I go on. For example the Vaer, the less expensive of the bunch is where I take to countries or places where I want a more low key brand name and something not quite as expensive. The CWC is new and I will also be using it for that.

You have a very nice collection as well!

What model is that IWC? Really beautiful.

Just that with the other four I don’t think you need it. If I had those four I’d never find the moment to wear that one. The omega seamaster 300 especially is one I’d pick over it.

Agreed. The Vaer holds a special place for me because it was my first real Swiss movement watch with a ETA movement and was a step into the world of the nicer mechanical watches. I’ve brought it all around the world at this point so it goes in my never sell category.

It is true it gets less wrist time with my collection how it is now, but I did just recently bring it on a trip to São Paulo brazil as I didn’t want the omegas with me in the more sketchy areas I’d be… however I’m wishing I’d just risked it and brought an omega anyways 😂

Personally, those are all beauties but maybe, just maybe you might try something different on just to see how you like it. Different color different mood different occasion?
