What’s your earliest sapphire crystal?

My 1969 Patek Golden Ellipse has a sapphire crystal. It only occurred to me today that this was quite unusual for the day and is almost certainly why it’s survived so well and one of the reasons why I like it!

So just wondering - has anyone got any early sapphire crystals to show off?

The internet tell me the earliest big brand to use it was the Omega Seamaster 300 in the 1960s. Who knew!

This is outside my sphere of knowledge and I certainly don't got any Patek Phillipes to show off 😅

But I got to say I love those oval PPs 👌

That's today's learning moment! I honestly thought it must've been 80s. Maybe it cost too much back then.

While we are learning - found out today that the word avocado is derived from the Aztec word for testicles!

I didn't know that Sapphire was so uncommon back in the day

Those were the days when Omega was pushing forward technologically... these days they struggle with making a red sunburst dial ffs 🙄
