The First Pitzmann or Baltic MR01?

I’ve been looking at 2 watches: The first Pitzmann, & the Baltic MR01 as I’m looking to get a watch with small seconds. I really enjoy the inspiration of both timepieces where the pitzmann is trying to resemble old pocket watches while the MR01 just screams horology.

Does anyone have the first pitzmann in hand? If so, what’s your verdict?

No experience with the pitzmann though it looks absolutely fabulous and the sellita should be very reliable.

I was underwhelmed by the MR01.  The finish was pretty good but I found the micro rotor loud and a bit rattly.  I don't know if that was a QC problem or a general problem with the movement but it wasn't covered under Baltic's warranty so I ended up moving on quickly.

Oh gosh, that Pitzmann is lovely!

The Pitzmann looks like a Dornbluth homage, but even as such, still gets my vote as I’d never own a watch with a Chinese movement again. That said, if you are okay with it being disposable when the movement inevitably fails, the MR01 looks great. With the Pitzmann, anyone can work on it. I’ve yet to find a watchmaker that’ll work on a Hangzou, but if you have a trusted maker and can get a new movement when it breaks, you may get them to swap it out.

I had the exact same experience with the Baltic.  I was really underwhelmed, I'm more impressed with my Seiko than my Baltic, which I sold.

Pitzmann blows me away with the ceramic dial and blued through heat treated hands.

They are coming out with a Pitzmann 2 you can preorder in September. They keep up with this quality and grow you may have some competition for the big boys. I am thinking of getting the first version myself. Might be worth big bucks in 20 years.

If the size of the Pitzmann doesn’t bother you (36 vs 40mm), I would go for the Pitzmann.

Go with the Pitzmann.
