Determining if a Watch is Great Part 2

Just throwing this out there. I know someone that has a MVMT watch and to them it's a great watch. My opinion is it is definitely not. (Just added- I tell him it's nice though) Are we both right? Let's see what you think about it.

Both right. One man's trash is another man's treasure. And vice versa.

Everyone has their own preferences. MVMT has nice designs if you view them as clothing accessories rather than timepieces. Personally I would rather spend the same money on a Casio/Citizen/Seiko.

I definitely own some watches that fit more of a fashion or fun nitch but also I don't think they are great watches even though I may really like them. It doesn't merit a great watch in my opinion.

It is all in the eye of the beholder. If as the owner it makes you happy, then it is great.

·

People think Starbucks is great “coffee”

I try to show them better coffee.

If they convert, awesome.

If they don’t, all I did was try ✌️

·

Everything can be great and trash at the same time. Or in other words everything is relative :)

·

It’s all opinion and subjective.

These opinions are interesting. My take is this, please I am not trying to offend anyone, but I do indeed think that their are watches that are bad trashy watches and that there are others that are just great watches plus a lot of in-between. For instance IMO and some watch experts a Bulova Lunar or an Omega Seamaster is a great watch. Also IMO and according to some watch experts all of the MVMT and Vincero brand watched are just bad watches. Now an owner may think he has a great watch but it doesn't mean he does. If he loves it he loves it and it can be a great watch for him but It's still not a great watch. 😀 Am I wrong? Is this just better left unsaid and we should all just be like yeah that's a nice watch? 🙂

I do agree with @usccopeland that it can be both. After all, my entire collection is cheap garbage according to Archie Luxury (not sure how Paul Pluta feels 😅). I will say that MVMT has been trying to up their game recently, with both automatic and solar models now available.

If you take an honest, 30,000 foot view of the matter, that watch is a turd.

However, your friend sees the watch through their eyes, which means that it is at least currently, great. For your friend.

Perhaps you might give your friend a mildly less enthusiastic response if the issue arises again. You could send him an introductory video by Teddy Baldissarre, maybe? In the spirit of a fellow watch enthusiast?

Or just drop it and grit your teeth.

Hope this helps!

Good question. I’m now leaning toward being honest. Trouble with that is that honesty can be twisted into ‘hater’, which is such a weak, coddled, puerile response.

Difficult.

I like that answer. This is a real circumstance and I am ok with this person liking his watch. But I do want to be talking with all you about what really makes a watch great because I want great watches also I think we should all want great watches. Understanding some attributes that qualify that is valuable knowledge.

Forget about Archie for a moment. MVMT is just bilge, period, and give proper watches a hangnail.

Agreed with enthusiasm! 😃

Let them enjoy the watch and move on. For many it is a gateway, who knows what they end up doing later.

Yes I am ok with that. Part 3 tomorrow I guess.

If he bought it for himself, then it is a trash… If an important person bought this for him as a present, then its worth is higher than a platinum Rolex. The famous watch paradox….

Also, my only gripe with “let them be” is they were very likely “influenced” with marketing and those “influencers.”

So it’s tricky, tying to help them while not being a hater. Good luck 🖖🏾
