CWC 1980 reissue (Destro)

This arrived from England yesterday. I was able to request it as a left hand drive, which I’d always opt for if I could as a personal preterence. Quirky, comfortable, and helps to make the watch more my own. You don’t see too many of these 1980 reissues and there’s a good chance there are no LHD versions out there.

I was very interested in CWC after learning about the brand and its history.

There’s a reason why this looks like the Seamaster 300 that was issued to the British Royal Navy. This was also issued to the RN, after they stopped commissioning the Rolex Mil-sub. They went with Omega first, Rolex second, and then to Cabot Watch Company, a domestic watch brand that they continue to commission to this day. Only now, they only issue Quartz watches (which makes perfect sense, let’s face it).

The original CWCs are rarer than both the Seamaster 300s and the Mil-subs. I’m partial to the Seamaster 300, but didn’t want to spring for a vintage, yet still wanted something with real heritage.

I get the modern build quality with 1:1 vintage recreated looks, and true heritage. Win, win, win (for me.).

Great choice! I submitted a request earlier with CWC for a destro for the one they still provide to the RN. I’m debating pulling the trigger when and if they have any left after filling military orders. Such a neat background and authenticity.

Lovely pick my friend. Congratulations 🎉🎈🍾🎊 I too recently got a left watch that I’m currently working on custom building and it goes have a unique feel to it. Also have to get use to using my left hand to set things as it does feel strange when I do so but I love the look so it’s worth it!

Yeah, they’re always sold out. I was looking at those, too. I really like the SBS versions. I want them to put a better quartz movement in them, though. Marathon steel navigator (which is the quartz I chose instead) uses a HAQ movement that has technology that locks the hands upon detecting impacts, is thermocompensated, and accurate to +/- 10 seconds a year. And that movement is still very cheap, maybe $25 bucks if I recall. The second hands also hit all the markers perfectly. CWC should adopt that movement IMO.

Thanks! Yeah, it’s awkward but you can get used to it or just turn the watch upside down, LOL. I’m left-handed actually, even though I wear a watch on my left hand. That’s what my dad did so I just assumed watches are worn on that hand and got used to it.

I didn’t know there was a movement choice, too? That HAQ sounds terrific.

There’s no choice, sadly. They just use a standard cheap quartz. I was saying they SHOULD use the HAQ movement. It’s made by Rhonda I think. “Heavy drive” and “preci-drive” are the names of the features I mentioned

Absolutely stunning. Such a small detail, but I much prefer that CWC logo when it's not in the oval (I think they only did that for a couple of years until changing it (1982 maybe? Can't remember). Congratulations on your new CWC 👏

I think it was this particular dial design that they only did from 80-82. The old logo I think was that way for a long time but I’m not sure. There’s a website dedicated to their history. I can’t remember it.
