Ocean 39 GMT Titanium suggestions

I wondered if any of you all out there have experience with this watch. I would like a GMT function for my next military deployment. I have a small wrist and I own another titanium watch which is comfortable for 24/7 wear.

After doing a bit of internet research (aka wasting ridiculous amounts of time) I landed on this Steinhart. I also thought about the Seiko 5 GMT.

Any watches below 1000USD that I am missing?

Thanks.

This has a Swiss Ronda 505-24 GMT movement in it. I have one and built 2 others with the same movement.

Wow. What a price! And you have had good luck with them?

Yes the Ronda 505-24 is a very reliable movement that was designed Swiss and put together by them from Chinese parts. Google that movement and watch to find they use it in far more expensive watches too.

Not titanium, and depends when your depart before the next restock, but this:

I would also check out Boldr, again buy used.

Also Bertucci, they are in stock.

Noticed you have a Marathon so the Navigator, with it's 12 hr bezel easily tracks a second time zone.

These are good suggestions… I’ll take a look. Thanks for taking the time.

No worries.

Again depending on time, you could build a titanium SKX/SRPD with either the Seiko GMT movement, or regular Seiko movement with a 12 hr bezel.

It all depends on what you actually intend to use it for.

Also the old adage two is one, one is none applies. I wear my watches, all of them, in the field. That is after all the point of a watch, tell the time or track something. But I bring a backup. $#!√ happens.

Well, I’ve never thought about building something yet. It’s an interesting idea and I have seen some channels that help folks do that.

This will be an easy deployment compared to my prior combat ones, so I will definitely have my G-Shock as a kind of back up.

Stay safe and frosty dude!

Thanks for your service.

Also never forget, use your tools! 🤘🏻🤙🏻😎

I’m not, nor have been MIL, but I am an LEO. I personally think you should go with a Solar G-shock with world-time function for a deployment of any kind. If you’re dead set on an analog watch, Jack Mason has a true GMT that’s nice. Steinhart in general makes good watches save for their hit or miss lume coloration on their bezels.

Ty. I’ll look at the Jack Mason. I appreciate you help.

Certina DS Action DIVER Titan 38mm looks nice as well.

I highly recommend the Marathon Navigator in steel, it's a great watch for under $1K CAD.

It uses a 12 hour bezel to track a second timezone, and has an ETA HAQ movement, plus tritium for lume.

It's also a watch made for the military, so it's kind of perfect for the role.

·

Have you looked at Islander? I haven’t tried them, but the SKX like cases are ok for smaller wrists and they have GMT watches. The downside may be weight. The Islander brand doesn’t have a titanium GMT (?).

I second @solidyetti on the Baltic Hydra for several reasons:

  1. Hurry up & wait. You will spend a ton of time waiting in line for the S-1 shop or getting your 495271 vaccinations (don't lose your yellow booklet!), and that's going to be bonding time with the smooth second hand sweep.

  2. Timing Bezel. The GMT arm is going to give you that feeling of connection with those back home when you're wondering what loved ones are doing at that exact moment. On most GMT watches, the bezel gives you that time, but on the Hydra you gain a timing function which is super useful at random moments.

  3. Screw down crown. It's not about the water resistance; it's the extra measure of protection for your movement. A lot of deployments happen in places where the sand is super fine and finds its way into everything. A screw down crown helps protect your watch from environmental stuff.

Excellent points.

And that screw down crown thing is for real. I'll go into the water with my 3-5 bar watches all day, I know their seals are good.

OCONUS or in the field, I want or prefer a screw down crown. Moon dust gets everywhere.

Wow... I love the look of these Holtons. I think the only issue for me would be my frustratingly small wrist size. But, other than the size, that is exactly what I would want (not really need) for this deployment.

I'll look at the Sangins. Thanks again.

Don't stress over the wrist size, I have a 6.5" and wear larger stuff proudly. For a no holds barred, tactical watch, legibility, rugged-ness and function means larger.

Wrist shots.

Man... that does look good! That is why I described myself as a "newbie watch collector". Thanks.

Don’t know if anyone else has suggested this yet, but I love my RZE Ascentus. It’s full Ti case and bracelet (except the clasp) with a hardness coating that I have yet to scratch. Feels rock solid but still very comfortable, light, and has an excellent bracelet. Not to mention 200m WR.

Not as high grade of a movement as the Steinhart, but there’s an argument for the robust, proven, and easy to service/replace nature of the NH series of movements.

Great lume too, I have the fully lumed dial version which is an absolute torch, but even the standard models look great.

7 months into ownership and I have nothing but good things to say.

Thank you for your service and best of luck in the search! 🍻

While you're in the Steinhart zone, how about the Ocean One 42 Black? Subtle with a nice highlight of orange?

Wow. I had not seen that one. I'm not sure I could pull off a 42... but that definitely looks like a deployment watch! Ty.

·

If you could pull off a 42mm, here's an option for under $450 once the code is applied with a traveler's GMT, lumed dial and titanium build:

https://conteenium.com/product/bauhaus-aviation-automatic-gmt-2868m-5/

Glycine makes the Airman in a 36mm size if you're really looking for a small piece.

Also, getting one might be a complete PITA, but there's a store opening this week:

·

I've had the Vaer G5 for about a week, and it has been fantastic:

https://www.vaerwatches.com/products/g5-meridian-navy-black-39mm-usa-gmt

It's running a Miyota 9075, so it's a traveller GMT.

Bonus: they have a front-lines discount for active duty military personnel and veterans.

Tried both this Hamilton and Mido recently and should be able to get them for less than $600. Mido has screwed down crown but no bezel. Hammy still had 100m WR but non screwed down crown.

That Hamilton is all business!

I’ve been encouraged on this by the watch crunch community to get over my aversion to large watches… I think I might just take them up on that.
