Seiko SKX- the versatile classic look

Youtubers say the Skx don’t offer the same value as it used to because of increasing prices. Instead, they recommend the seiko trutle because of the 4R35 and reasonable price. But it’s not just about the movement and price for me. I really prefer the look of the skx vs the turtle. It looks good both in formal attire and in the beach. I work in pharma sales and live here in the Philippines. The skx can transition from business to beach effrortlessly. What do you guys think about the skx today?

I think that the SKX looks good, but I also think it's not worth more than $250...

In the 90's when it came out it was a great watch, but by the mid-2010's it was already overpriced for what it is. At the end of the day, we buy an object, not "heritage", horological significance", or any of that fluff. There are objectively better watches that cost less than a SKX, so I'd advise people to shop for those.

Islander watches makes SKX clones that fix most of the issues with the SKX, and cost less.

You are probably right. Maybe I’m-biased because I grew up seeing my uncles wearing seiko divers in the 90’s. This is my very reason for the brand’s bias, not necessarily horological significance but maybe nostalgia. Also seiko’s are more accessible here in the PH compared to micro brands plus you pay for the shipping and taxes. Our currency is also trash at 1USD = 53.68PHP. As for islanders, i really like what Mark is doing doing seiko homages with better specs. But again we humans are not just logical but also emotional. Thus the nostalgia factor comes in, the same very reason we all love casios.

Love my SKX.

Yeah not just about a checklist of specs. Like what random rob said, it’s how a watch makes you feel❤

Just bought one! It’s on the way. It will be my first mechanical diver and have been looking at mods. Iconic and inexpensive. Thinking of going for a OEM+ look
