Hodinkee is suffering badly
Hodinkee "deworsified" paying $40 million for a watch outlet coupled with a bad business strategy turned out to be a recipe for disaster.

If they had consulting with me, I would have advised them to stay away… far far away. 🤣
All I can say about the merge is that the prices for Crown & Caliber went through the roof once Hodinkee acquired them. They had decent prices before but once they changed ownership, their used models became almost the same price as new ones. Not to mention almost everything is missing boxes, papers or spare links. (75% of watches I click on show a max wrist size of 7” or less)
Greed rarely bites companies in the back in the luxury industry because we are such suckers for a brand name that we put up with all their price hikes. But when it does like this acquisition and price hikes on C&B, it makes me happy. 👍
Hodinkee really bothers me to the point that I can’t watch or listen to them. I get the same feeling from them that I get when I watch the mainstream news. A guy wrenching nausea
Plus they started doing the whole "sale price shenanigans" too. Things would go on sale with a coupon and be more than the any of the original price prior.

Interesting that Teddy B does kind of the same with highlighting watches he sells, but he doesn’t do it like that - he comes out more honest and gets the credibility (I like him a lot by the way he’s class - I like GS and he creates good content on them).
Hodinkee didn't just "deworsify," the company also fostered a toxic, politicized community choosing to divide their readership by race, gender, etc. while pushing the typical, wealthy, elite NYC agenda on all their readers. What's happening is the result.
