This or that or none

While my usual exploring around watches, I found about the legendary Tuna. I liked it's unique design and the story behind it as Seiko responded to professional divers in their own way. What empress me also, is the high torque quartz movement that was made specially for this specific watch.

Soon after that, I got obsessed and started searching for the right one for me. Due to modern specifications, it was even SBBN045 "Black bezel" or SBBN049 "Steel bezel". I decided to go black bezel for the classic look. Also afraid that steel bezel would make the dial look small.

Then, started searching for deals. And surprise, they where discontinued. Best I can find is 1600$ for the black bezel and 1250$ for the steel bezel.

So, as I dislike premiums, I'm tempted to settle on the steel bezel. Or should I wait see if there will be a new release.

What would you do. Your kind input/opinion/vote/offer is appreciated.

Thank you.

I don't think that the steel bezel makes the dial look small at all. I think that it also has a cleaner and more professional look. I know that it's cheaper but expensive isn't always better.

The black bezel certainly has a more iconic Seiko look to it but steel bezels seem to be a lot more rare to me personally. I don't think they work for all dive watches but on the Tuna its great. It really draws out that tool watch feeling.

If the only reason you wanted a black bezel is a perceived “small dial effect,” then you should get the steel bezel.

If you actually prefer the black bezel, then I guess it depends how much you value it. Is it worth an extra $350 to you? It isn’t to me, but it’s not my money and it won’t be my watch.

As someone who has the SS bezel on his Tuna, I think you'll be happy with it.

It's my favorite watch.

Faisal, if you don't mind getting it from Japan. It's available here new for $975.

I've had good luck with watches from Japan. Happy hunting

I have a steel bezel on my Citizen diver, and it's my favorite feature of the watch.

It's gorgeous. I can see the beauty of it.

I have the black bezel and love it. Got it last fall at 40% off from the local AD, but hard to find these deals after it's be discontinued, sadly.

Excellent pick. Now - if found - demands a premium.

Faisal, as 'you always need an extra link' I would go black or wait and see. I think one of them would look better on your wrist. The fact that it seems you prefer the non steel bezel also and there will always be that 'I wish I would have gone black or waited' feeling potentially should be seriously considered.

I hope whatever you go for works well for you. 👍

Thank you for your advice Ian, I do totally agree with you.

But I actually couldn't wait. I have decided to take the risk and go Steel. And will keep an eye for upcoming releases.

Nice one Faisal. We all suffer from the same 'need it now disease' It's a lovely watch and I hope you enjoy every second with it.

Take care my friend. 🤝
