Anybody know what movement this is?

It's in a watch I don't really want to talk about, but I guess I have to. It's a fake Rolex DayDate, so it has the day at 12 and the date at 3. I normally wouldn't even bother with fixing it, but it's something I added to my collection after going thru my step dad's stuff after he passed, so it has sentimental value. Anyways, movement is about 25mm across. It runs, but the power reserve is variable and short, like between 2 and 6 hours. You can handwind it, but it never stops, so I'm guessing the mainspring is broken. And if you wear it, it will last all day because it's staying wound, but heaven forbid you take it off at work for a couple hours! Anyways, I don't condone fakes, but if still like to get this going again. I'm thinking a Miyota 8205, but it isn't exact, so I want to see if anyone has any insight.

Here's another pic of the movement with the rotao in a different position. No markings or anything to give me a clue.

Looks rough. Too bad it's a fake.

The ST16 is one I was thinking it might be also.

The movement is definitely not finished very highly, lol! But whatever it is, from the options I've looked at, less than $25, so that's cool. And the dial side of the watch looks much better than the movement.

I'd have a new movement fitted and wear it ,it's part of your step dad's history

That's exactly why and what I want to do, but do it myself. It's not hard to do a movement swap, and I have the tools, so why not. Although I have been tempted to take it to the mall and have the little repair shop do it for me, but it would be more fun and more in the spirit of my step-dad to DIY.

OK, I looked at more pics of the ST16 and the pics I have of mine, and I think you nailed it. Thank you! Time to get one ordered up. Need to get another bracelet too. The one on it fits, but it's too tight, just need a link or 2 to make it comfy. But found the bracelet and the movement on AliExpress, so it's all good!

I'm happy I could help. Enjoy.

So, I got the ST16 and went to install it this weekend, not the right movement. It's slightly too big (30.8mm vs 28.8mm) the dial doesn't mount I the right orientation, and even if it did, the day and date wheels don't align with the windows. Bummer. Might be a Miyota 28xx, forget the exact number. But may not need to replace it. When I put it back together with the original movement, I noticed some dings on some hour markers around 9-12. Then when I put the hands on, saw the minute hand was clipping them. That may have been the cause of the thing stopping. Gave the minutes hand a slight tweak so it clears now, might be fixed. Time will tell. Now I just need a case and dial for the ST16 movement, lol!

Sorry to hear it didn't fit but glad you got the watch working. Maybe it's not a mistake but a happy accident? (Bob Ross) At the very least a new project. Lol

Exactly my thoughts! I wanted to keep it as original as possible. And now I can build something new using the ST16, that will be fun!
