Seiko 5 SRPK33 review

This is the 38mm Seiko 5 Sports divers style watch from Seiko. I’ve had the watch for almost a week now. A few years ago, I had a SKX007. I replaced that watch when I found out there was a smaller version, the SKX013. I wore it for a few months and then sold it. It just didn’t get too much wrist time. I always felt it was too top heavy on the stock jubilee bracelet. With the release of the new generation of Seiko 5 Sports models, the SRPD line in particular, I, like many others, have been hoping for Seiko to bring the 38mm case size back. So I’m very excited when I heard about this release.

This watch is slimmer than the 013 and you can really notice it on the wrist. The watch sits closer to the wrist and feels very light. Yes, it’s not ISO rated with 200m and a screw down crown, but I don’t really care for that. As a Seiko 5, I knew this was not going to be a SKX replacement.

The watch looks great, wears really nicely on my 7inch wrist, and it’s perfectly timed for the summer with it’s beautiful teal dial.

I’m glad Seikohas kept the 20mm lug width, which makes this a strap monster. Currently I have it on a UncleStraps beads of rice bracelet.

The watch is running on the 4R36 movement. So far it’s been keeping good time.

The bracelet is not great, but that’s to be expected in this price range (of Seiko watches).

One thing that is very weird, is that the hands are in a gold tone, but the bezel insert markers are silver. There is that unbalance in the design. You can see it very clearly in the press photos, but having it in hand and wearing it for a few days, I can say that the gold doesn’t always show. Most of the time , the hands look silver and when the light hits it perfectly, it glows gold and it looks great with the teal dial.

That’s all I have to say about this watch.

Thanks!

Having the hands a shade different immediately draws ones eyes to them. I think they were spot on with that design decision.

That’s a nice theory I hadn’t thought about. It does makes sense

It's also a call back to a past model with the teal dial and gold hands (saw the info and the older pictures here on WatchCrunch). So it's definitely not a lazy choice on their part.

I noticed the other colors have a few other hand/bezel color combos as well. I'm going to check these out because I want something affordable to bang around with for the summer.

Like the dial color.

Yup. I don’t know if I’m allowed to post YouTube content here but I did a video review of this and the orange dial. The orange has gold hands and gold markers on the bezel insert. I also tried the beige dial, that one has like a grey/olive bezel. Looks very nice

Got the Orange Seiko 5. Now I want that rice bead bracelet! Where can I get it?

It’s from UncleStraps. It’s one with hollow end links so I was able to bend the end link to fit the watch

I agree with you about the diving specs not mattering. It’s frustrating how many watch enthusiasts refuse to see the point of the 5KX. It has specs that are fine for the everyday person. However by extension i disagree with the cons being that it’s only snorkeling-level WR and has to screw-down crown. There are plenty of Casios and Timexesthat don’t have screw-down crowns, yet we trust them.

One strange thing I’ve noticed about the current 5 Sports line is that the clasps are inconsistent. Some have up to 4 microadjusments holes and some have 2. I would go with 4 by default. I don’t understand why i see major Japanese brands have two.

I like the gold-tone hands. I think they compliment the color well and provide a warm contrast. But iirc it’s a modern reissue of a previous diver they produced.

I’ve see a lot of watch people call it “teal” but i think it’s more like a Turquoise.

It looks amazing on that bracelet btw

Yah the 100m WR isn’t what I’m most worried about honestly. Like you said, there are many other watches with push-pull crowns and 50m-100m WR that nobody complains about.

As for the inconsistencies, well it’s Seiko 😂

Just check out the clasp on the SPB313. 2 holes for micro adjustments on a Prospex diver makes no sense

Great review mate! I know I’m a little late to the party, but if I may ask, does it still get a lot of wrist time 10 months in? I’m looking to get a casual “fun” watch that is budget friendly, and this is on my radar.

Hey, I've got one as well
