Limited edition Master GMT?

Saw this on a time+tide post, checked out the official webpage immediately.

https://www.longines.com/en-au/p/watch-longines-master-collection-l2-844-8-71-2

Comes in 2 type of precious metals, pink gold & yellow gold (18 karat), both limited to 500 pieces, GMT movement w/ calibre L844.5.

40mm w/ 10.4mm thickness & Arabic numeral dial with 24hr marker.

AUD $24,625

Personally, I think it’s a good looking watch, but $24k AUD, it’s a lot of money.

Like to hear what rest of watch community thinks.

Peace✌️

$24k for a Longines 🤣 Why do watch manufacturers charge a heart and lung for precious medals? No way it increases the value that much. Yellow gold is my favorite medal, but all solid gold watches are ridiculous in price

I'm not a fan of precious metals for watches, I much prefer steel. But, looking at some examples of others may help here. From what I see in prices, precious metals often doubles the cost of the watch (if offered in a non precious metal format). Here is an example.

There is no hard and fast rule for this, other vendors will obviously charge more or less based on other factors. but if you can use this at least some sort of baseline, then that would mean a non -precious version of the Longines should be about $7k USD. And from what I see in their offerings the closest version to this in steel is L2.893.4.09.2, which goes for $2350 USD. Even the L2.793.8.78.3 from the master collection which is in pink gold, is only $8200 USD. So I agree this seems be very highly priced compared to the rest of the master collection, even factoring in the case material and the fact that it's a limited edition (500 pieces).

24k for an ALS sure, for a Sedna Gold Omega Speedmaster on gold bracelet, you bet - for a Longines? Hard no. And I say that in my best Canadian accent impersonation of Wayne from Letterkenny - see below:

$24k AUD is roughly $16k USD. Even still, I can't justify that amount of money for a Longines, precious metal or otherwise.

·

16k USD is a bit high for me to spend on Longines with a leather band, but the watch is great looking.

·

I cannot imagine what the depreciation of this will be once it hit's the greys. Oof.

Let’s wait and see, maybe we can pick it up half the price once the heat is out

If I had $25K AUD to throw at a watch, I'd consider it. It looks good, and it's a recognizable brand with a long history.

If you genuinely have the spare cash lying around to buy a solid gold watch, you shouldn't care about resale. If you can't burn that stack of dollars, you can't actually afford to waste it on a watch.

That’s only about $2,500 in gold. What’s your point? Limited edition isn’t a valid reason, regardless of what anyone claims
