How I got into watch collecting - first post

I got into watch collecting 3 1/2 years ago after my dad passed. I inherited his Universal Geneve Unisonic driven by a tuning fork. The watch was in terrible shape and I'm sure I spent more money than it's worth repairing it but it runs perfectly now (except for the date function). I wear it only on special occasions per the watch repair guy. That became my second watch, as I had been wearing a Accutron watch my mom had given me 25 years earlier when I started my business. I still wear that watch regularly. Since then I've purchased mostly automatic and manual wind (my favorite) watches. My style tastes hover around simple dials, many of them Bauhaus in style. My regular rotation includes 11 watches, including my pride and joy Omega Aqua Terra, which I think may be the most beautiful luxury watch around. Other current brands include Seiko, Tissot, Echo/Neutra, Timefactors/Smiths and several other microbrands.

I've also spent more than presumed value on an inherited UG, but mine was a bumper automatic. I didn't know they had tuning fork models, especially with both a fluted bezel and a C-shape case. I'm a bit perplexed by the "only special occasions" advice. It's always running as long as there is a battery in it, right? I'd assume he's only talking about reducing exposure incidental handling damage?

Yes, he said internal moving parts were sensitive and weather could affect it. I once wore it outside on a very cold day and moisture appeared inside later. But keeps time perfectly when I wear. And it reminds me of my dad, which is most important

That's a great story, and I'm sure that getting your dads Universal Geneve repaired was the right thing to do, even if it cost more than the market value of the watch.

Omega is one of my favorite brands, and even though I don't have an Aqua Terra in my collection, I have to agree that it is one of the best looking watches available.
