Changed my mind

When I started collecting watches Seiko was not for me.. I somehow didn't like them.. That has changed.. Now I love them..what is your story with Seiko?

When I was younger, watches like Seiko, Casio and Timex were department store standards. When you went shopping, the cheaper models sold best for daily wear, so I associated them with cheap and mass produced. The marketing has changed with full page ads in major magazines showcasing top-of-the -line models, then the Internet making Manufacturer websites accessible and YouTube democratizing the product reviews. Now information overload has brought me full circle and I proudly wear Seiko, Casio and Timex models!

My story is that I bought a Seiko 5 and then decided that I need to be a "hipster" and never buy a Seiko again.

In all honesty, I find more value in vintage watches and vintage Seikos don't really tickle me. A SeaLion with the Afrikaans day wheel is something that will sway me for certain. Their modern lineup also leaves me cold. Their dress watches are a little too big for me and their tool watches are... well, tool watches, which aren't really for me.

Credor on the other hand has some gems from the '80s and '90s that sell for much less than you think. I might get one of those soon.

I've been simply collecting whatever I like over the years, however, my last three purchases have been Seiko and I'm falling in love with the brand ~ especially the Presage line. I now have two Presage models; one Prospex and two Five series.

A Seiko quartz was the first watch I ever bought myself over 40 years ago Now I have two, which constitute half of my small collection.

I've always own Seiko's since my late teens. I've always bought and own one at a time. The thought of having a collection never entered my mind. The watch serves its purpose. When it stops working, throw it away and buy a replacement. When I lost interest, I gave it away. All were bought at the mall or Sears, so quite inexpensive.

I dove deep into watches in my late 40's when I have a larger bank account. I have a special affection for Seiko divers but many are too big for me. The Samurai is one watch that I ached over but had to send back because I looked like a kid wearing his father's watch. Then come the SBDC053/62mas. Better. But still a tad oversized. Then the SPB series. Perfect, so I fancied myself with the SPB147. Then the Green Willard SPB153. Then one day scanning the YouTube, I came across Random Rob's video on the SLA043. Ahh. Seiko has finally answered my wish.

Only The SPB153 and SLA043 remain in my collection today. I think I may have reached the finish line for Seiko. But wait, there's Grand Seiko. The madness continues....

I like Seiko. I would like some of the higher end models, but I love my cheap SNGZ too.

I’ve been collecting seiko divers for a while had turtles and samurai’s couple of skxs then moved up to the Willard and a spb147 but recently moved up to marine master 300 and 1000m tunas and just got this SLA 065. Each step up has impressed me more and more. The tunas are not comparable to anything but the SLA is really impressive it’s better than any Swiss watch I’ve owned up to my seamaster and only the bracelet lifts it above this. Love Seiko watches there really is something for everyone
