Looking for ‘the’ dress watch

As a student I don’t have much money to spend on watches, and I have one GADA-watch and will probably not buy another in a few years. Anyhow, my next watch will be a ‘real’ dress watch. Because I am as I am, I’m looking for the perfect watch already.

My criteria are:

  • 34-37mm (38 is maybe okay, not 39)

  • Manual wound

  • Sapphire case back

  • Preferably hours and minutes only, seconds is maybe okay (center or offset)

  • Absolutely no date :P

  • Budget is preferably max €1000 but maybe up to 1500-2000

  • Circular, no tanks or tonneau shapes

  • Preferably new, I’ll buy a vintage watch sometime but not as my second

  • Dial doesn’t really have any criteria, I’m more case to case basis

The best watch I can think of is Nomos Ludwig 35 (duo sadly not available), and also the Stowa 36mm watches.

Please let me know if you can think about any watches fitting my criteria. All kinds of brands from anywhere in the world are of interest!

Thanks in advance!

Check out the Bi Compax and MR01.

One is a manual dress chrono, the other is a microrotor

This is a nice option

Centre seconds and a bit above €1000 (CHF 1250), but otherwise the nicest dress watch I can think of within your criteria: Furlan Marri Sector

Sadly, they don’t make it any more (so I’ve been told).

I second the Stowa Marine 36. I own the 40 and absolutely love it.

Why not just get a used Ludwig? I've seen em for as under $800 even. It's one on my to-buy list as well.

Can’t decide between Arabic or Roman!

That’s an option absolutely, can’t engrave it though :/

Most jewellers can do engraving if you bring them a watch. Just be sure its a keeper, the resell value plummits when you engrave a piece.

Im in love with the Roman version, to me it feels a bit more old school and classy. The arabics are a bit more contemporary and modern. Go with your gut 😉👍

Why ever not?
