Scratch resist of Seiko Titanium/DLC/‘brilliant’ steel

Hi watch family!

want to ask some of you GS, Prospex and Presage owners about how your watches resist small daily scratches - I.e. real world hardness.

“high intensity titanium” - like a SBGA211 or SBGA415 ?

the new GS ‘Ever Brilliant Steel’ which supposedly has better hardness?

Or the DLC/PVD that’s used on black steel cases and bracelets?

My Prospex Alpinist Ginza - a regular 316 steel?  - has promptly collected a clasp covered in desk scuffs in just a month of light use.  Case is still clean, but it’s more due to babying it I think.   (My Oris Aquis steel bracelet at 1 year already looks like it’s from the 60s, but I wear it quite a bit. )

If I get a DLC presage or a 6k GS will it be immediately scratched up like my other watches?

And of course anybody insights on hardness ratings are appreciated, cheers 🍻 !

Clasps on all my GS immediately get scratched-the-F%$#-up.  But, you know, that's life.  I've thought about not using my laptop anymore, and instead sending messages to work using ravens instead, but haven't quite figured out the logistics yet.  Until that time, I'll learn to live with the scratches.

Besides, other than the SBGJ255, I think all GS watches look much better on leather straps than bracelet.

Laptops are terrible for that.  I put a strip of clear packing tape along the lower left edge.  Inconspicuous, plus it slows the inevitable.

I recently saw an ad on protective films that you can stick over the scratch prone areas to protect the watch. Looks interesting, may try it.

btw, nice Seiko. I have it too.

I've been wearing my presage with scratch resistance quite often for the past three months. A few scratches on the clasp, and a couple on the bracelet. The case still looks near new. Overall happy with the durability!

So I have the highly polished GS Skyflake - some fine scratches on the case after 2 years, nothing on the clasp. Still very shiny, so I’d say this one has a fine patina. This one uses their 316L stainless steel.

I also have the GMT quartz - 316L steel again, I think, but less polished. I don’t see any real wear, but also some fine scratches. Overall, good look and this one gets heavy use.

Finally Winter and titanium. Some wear on the clasp, but nothing I can see on the case at all.

Dream group you‘ve got Rob!  Yes, was mostly curious about clasp on the Winter titanium, that and the spring one I’m sweet on

seems even with ’super hard Ti’ I’ll have a scratched up clasp 🤷‍♂️

Yep, you inspired me to take a good hard look at my Winter. Regarding the case, I can see some fine scratches in the Zaratsu polished areas with a 30x loupe, but they are not very apparent to the naked eye and hard to photograph. The area of the bracelet near the clasp and the clasp have visible wear. This has been after 2 years of use, often daily wear when I was moving, so its had a ‘real’ life. I think overall it’s held up well and its got a mild and acceptable patina to me, but scratch-free, its not.

I own a SBGJ235 and I consider myself "wrist conscious", about a week after using it it got super scratched... saratzu is such a scratch magnet! just take care as much as you can!!! watches get scrated.
