Does Swiss quartz = bad?

Let me start by saying I adore this watch, but whenever I buy something it always seems to have one fatal drawback that plays on my mind constantly. For me, the watch looks perfect, the finishing is fantastic, the bracelet feels awesome, it's super weighty and the bezel feels great to rotate. But my fatal mental block is the movement, Raymond Weil simply state it as "Swiss quartz" but I know from further research it's a Ronda 515.24h movement. I know nothing about this movement besides the fact that it's about £20. Does this make it a bad watch? Does this make it not a true "Swiss watch"? So many questions....

Ronda are an independent Swiss manufacturer of movements, is it the fact that’s it’s Quartz that bothers you?

No Swiss quartz isn't bad. I have a couple Swiss Ronda powered watches, and they're great. It sounds like you really like the watch, so just enjoy it.

Potentially, I see some mechanical/automatic movements that are just beautiful, and it might just be me thinking that this watch is gorgeous in every way on the outside and really deatailed and thoughtfully designed just for the movement to be a little, inelegant. However I may be wrong as I've never seen the movement. It could be a work of art for all i know!

The movement will be nothing to look at, as a Swiss quartz it will probably have a better crystal and run at a better frequency for better accuracy, I wouldn’t overthink it, if you like the watch then just try and appreciate it for what it was intended to be. I think every collection needs both quartz and automatics. Quartz brings accuracy, reliability, convenience and adds things to the watch in other areas that you will appreciate due to money saved on the movement.

I have 2 watches with that movement and they are very reliable and have taken several knocks

Yes, it’s terrible! Please send your watch to me and I’ll dispose of it for you. 😆

The only bad things about quartz watches are the snobbery proliferated by watch snobs and luxury brands and that you have to change the battery once every 3 years or so.

It’s all perception.

We all know of the time when quartz watches were seen as high tech and the future and were more expensive and more desirable than mechanical/automatic movements.

Nothing wrong with quartz. I have a few quartz beaters. They just don't interest me the same as pure mechanical.

Thank you for this information, and another response we can learn from. Is there any technical/physical reason why there couldn't be a solar powered mecha-quartz three hand watch?

·

Ronda is true Swiss. They make durable quartz movements.I have a few older watches with Ronda’s.One of them being a Raymond Weil. They’re still ticking away.Enjoy that nice RW,looks good.

My Raymond Weil quartz is one of my more accurate watches. Love it.
