Let me say up front that I love Mido. I think their design and implementation are excellent, and their price-point is right where it should be. You may not agree with any of those points, but, hey, that's what makes watch collecting such an individualist yet group sport.

Now the rant. My beloved Mido, in the pic, developed a flaw whereby when the crown was in the closed position for screwing down, the winding pawl did not disengage. I sent it to the United States east coast Swatch center for repair. Nearly $300 later (remember, this is a $900 watch), they returned it to me with the pawl issue fixed.

BUT, now the watch randomly loses an hour or two. The GMT hand and the minute hand stay true, but the hour hand randomly loses time. And, there is no pattern to when it loses the hour. So strange.

In any event, I am very disappointed with the Swatch repair and I caution you all in both your purchases and repair orders with Swatch. I love the watch and may send it back, but I don't want to spend any more $$ on a sub-$1,000 watch.

That's a real shame - the Ocean Star GMT is such a good-looking watch.

agree...you just paid $300 for a repair...they should have done a once over and should do the next one on the house

So, I have now notified them of the issue. We’ll see their reaction….

In complete transparency my wife used the loss of my GMT to get me this Bremont for my birthday…

I bought an ocean star years ago and after about a year of ownership it started running crazy fast. My watch repair guy couldn’t fix it without parts, and he couldn’t get replacement parts for that movement, so I just had him swap in an ETA movement. It’s run perfectly ever since.
