Each has it's place depending on the watch. Voting one out means voting a watch out. I have all (no plastic?) and all are perfect for their respective watches. A majority are even interchangable.

Metal bracelets are the least useful and comfortable option.

Metal bracelets have only one mode. The other 3 can make a watch more casual or formal, or sporty. And they can make a dial "pop".

I’ve spent gigantic sums of money on custom made straps made out of animal hide. They are usually of a high quality. That’s on top of OEM leather straps, which have varied from poor to good.

Here’s the thing. We hoomans slaughter 70 billion animals a year for food and animal products. That’s 70. Billion. Animals. Every. Year. I don’t think we will ever be able to dig ourselves out of our spiritual and ecological holes until that changes.

With the majority of us now living in urban environments, we’re cognitively and physically disconnected from the natural planet, and from the consequences of our behavior. It’s incredible to observe that with species loss occurring at 100x the background rate, and with industrial scale slaughter happening every second of every minute out of view, we can diddle around with dead animal hides on our wrists because it’s our ‘free choice.’ That’s not free choice, friends, that’s free-loading.

So just as we need to wean ourselves off fossil fuels (yes, we really do) I think it’s time to drastically reduce the slaughter of animals for discretionary consumption. Miniscule as it might be in the grand scheme of things, that means doing away with killing animals so that we can wear them. There’s plenty of ingenious alternatives to explore, and I hope that happens more. Some watch companies are making that transition. More can and should. Buyer pressure can help.

I used the word “discretionary.” That’s because force of necessity means killing animals will be unavoidable sometimes - such as when one’s life depended on it. Beyond that, personally, it’s a no go.

Needless to say I voted 4.

Not worn anything leather since the 90's...

Idea of it is barbaric, unevolved and repugnant to me.

Typed on a device made with materials that destroy the planet more in both a spiritual and physical way than any leather.
