Travel wraps, travel cases or ???

The travel season is upon us and there are questions. There is the old question of whether to travel with your grail watches or your beaters can create a dilemma for some. But that’s not the question I want to discuss.

I would love to hear from the community, if do you travel with more than one watch: What do you use to protect your watches from the rigors of travel?

There are a lot of retail options with different features and advantages, flaps for extra scratch protection, slots and compartments for extra straps/ bands/tools. Wraps offer the ability to roll your favorite pieces into a nice loaf with little opportunity for unnecessary jostling. Another option are the roll cases that keep the wrist shape but at the cost of space and weight.

I unashamedly use my socks or underwear, because who really wants to touch those if they don’t know if they’re clean or not? I usually travel with a dress, a dive and a beater. So I have two rolled up in my carry on with my “lost luggage” outfit.

So let’s hear it crunchers, what do you use?

I use a 5 slot case for long trips (>month):

And a little padded plastic case for trips lasting less than a few weeks:

Don't need any covers, but will place a thin suede pad under the caseback for the small plastic case just so the bracelet doesn't unnecessarily scuff it up.

This is a travel case that Dan Henry provides with their watches. So I'll pack two watches in this, plus 2-3 extra straps. Then wear one, so it's a three watch trip.

Excellent choices. I do like the idea of the 5 slot for longer stays and I definitely forgot about the small Pelican cases. They absolutely can take the punishment. Thank you for sharing.

I use this with six slots, which also doubles as a soft surface for changing straps etc. It means they're wrapped small enough to go in my carry on bag.

I use a 3 watch roll when I travel. If I fly I keep it in my carry on bag with me. It is a little bulky but it protects my watches well.

Tony, that looks like an efficient way to travel, the wrap will mold to the space available much like my socks!

·

Nice option Johnny, I glad I’m not the only sock user. I’m not really familiar with this style, is that hard or soft sided?

·

Socks are cheap, effective, don't take additional space, and can also be uses on feet when they are not wrapped around watches.

·

Depending on the length of my travel plans I bring 2-4 watches with me. Always have my Ball Magnate GMT, aka my beater, then a Rolex, an Omega, and a dress watch/casual leather strap. I say brand because I change it up depending on which models fit the clothes I pack.

One thing remains true no matter what I bring, they are in a watch roll and always on my person, never out of my sight (I have a small single strap shoulder pack I wear in the front). And when not on my wrist they always go in the safe of the hotel/cruise/vacation home I’m staying at.

I wear the watches that want to wear when I travel beaters, grails it doesn't matter.

I started carrying my watches in plastic bags.

Image

And for a while I used clean socks.

Image

Now I've been up graded to watch rolls and WC pouches.

This is the better way. Thanks for the post.

I have a watch roll from Cuffed.com.au, holds 2 watches plus one on wrist, and the quality is excellent for the price. Can't recommend enough.

Logical progression Craig. Thanks for the walkthrough. In respect of keeping your watches protected in the scratch and dent sense, the hard side cases does the job very well.

Very nice Josh!

Know your brand, and G Shock does. This bag is no frills and knowing how tough their watches are -this satin pouch is down right perfect. They know the assignment. People have a ton of G's and love to tote around a bag full of G's 😛 Love the topic, thx!

I know it's another step I need to do. At home I keep them in a box. When traveling a want them to take up as little space as possible.

I like the space saving element of socks. Thanks Claude.

Thanks for your input, Carson. You bring up a point unique to watches with protective bands like Casio. Unless I plan on wearing one of my Casios to and from my destination I tend not to pack them. Soft sided bags/socks let the bands get compressed more than you want as I found with a snapped band right at those “s” flex points. The roll cases oddly enough would be better since you can’t always control the guy that insists on jamming their luggage onto of yours.

I bought this.. but to be honest. The last time I traveled I just wore one and threw the other one in a sock in my carry on

Great story, thanks for sharing Sam! Cheers

I travel with three watches, two in the watch roll and one on the wrist. Also when opened, flat space of the watch roll is used to park the third watch.

Adil, great looking case, a bit bulky but impressive.❤️

travel season is upon us? strange...here where I live travel season is more from Mai to September

Marco, in the US, people travel Thanksgiving-New Year for holidays, with more formal events as opposed to Jul-Aug camping/exploring vacations. Full disclosure, I only take one watch on camping trips. Most US worker don’t get a European length “holiday.”

I really like the pebbled leather, great choice Cantaloop. You’re much braver than I am taking tools and parts with you, I have a hard enough time keeping track of things in my own home. Compact and convenient, nicely played. 👏

Jimmy, excellent advice. I know that one day my dirty dainty ruse will fail and I’ll lose some watch. I will follow your advice to take them to the safe, although I’d never use those “in room” safes, too easily hacked. I’ll have to look for this shoulder pack you mentioned as well. Thank you for the great insights from another seasoned traveler. 👌

Daniel, I do like the rolls and they are probably the most effective choice. I’m going to have to get serious about finding one that fits my style and space requirements. Not too much of an issue if I’m traveling alone, but if I’m traveling with my wife, every square inch is a precious commodity. Thank you kind sir for your advice.👌

I’m a rare bird, currently traveling to Indiana for the week, I only brought one watch, and I wore it. It’s currently resting on the nightstand next to hotel bed, while I try to go to bed 3 hours earlier than usual cause the tot had to go down lol

Kyle, I fault you not one bit. When traveling with little ones, making sure they have everything they need is priority. Travel light and unencumbered, one is enough. Thank you for sharing.👏

·

Always have my watch roll with 3 in, plus one on the wrist. I would say it depends on the duration of the trip, but it doesn't. I just always take 4.

Took 4 to Australia on a 5 week trip. Took 4 to the UK on a 3 day weekend.

Pete, your 4 watch selection seems like it would cover most activities that you might engage in as well as giving you style choices. Those are some great looking options you have shown. Thank you for your contribution to this conversation.
